This is the first album in 10 years for the Arizona-based band. The album deals heavily with loss and letting go. It&#8217;s about shedding the past and moving on from tired relationships and situations, about closure and slamming some doors shut. &#8216;Dear Tired Friends&#8217; is a testimony of the effect the last decade had on each band member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formed in 1991 in Mesa, Arizona, Audra is primarily\u00a0Bart and Bret Helm &#8211; two brothers originally hailing from Chicago &#8211; joined by drummer Jason DeWolfe Barton. This album also includes a guest appearance by\u00a0Mike VanPortfleet\u00a0of\u00a0Lycia\u00a0on lead guitar for the song\u00a0<em>Planet of Me<\/em>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comprised of 10 tracks, this album was mastered at The Cage Studios in Coventry, UK by\u00a0Martin Bowes\u00a0of\u00a0Attrition, well known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Psychic TV and Steven Severin of Siouxsie &amp; the Banshees. Earlier, Audra ran a successful Indiegogo campaign to assist in the production costs of the CD &amp; vinyl editions. Mixing was completed in July 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What started as a four-song EP recording session quickly turned into something much larger for Audra. When assembling demos for this release, the brothers discovered a virtual time capsule &#8211; the song\u00a0<em>Wish No Harm<\/em>, which they had recorded on cassette tape with a Fostex four-track tape machine back in 1993. In June 2018, Bret finally completed the song, adding lyrics and melody to the original demo. 26 years later, the song would be released as the first single off &#8216;Dear Tired Friends&#8217;. Listen to <em>Wish No Harm<\/em> via YouTube below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_KfVRwtHI9E?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Our music is informed by all of the bands that we grew up with &#8211; the stark landscapes of post-punk mixed with the tribal grandeur of early Jane&#8217;s Addiction and the poetic eclecticism of Lou Reed&#8217;s Velvet Underground,&#8221; <\/em>says\u00a0Bret Helm. Audra&#8217;s sound and aesthetic have also been influenced by Joy Division, David Bowie, U2, James and Tom Waits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Audra&#8217;s first release since their 2009 album\u00a0&#8216;Everything Changes&#8217;. It is also the band&#8217;s first foray into DIY production and distribution. The band&#8217;s first two albums &#8211;\u00a0&#8216;Audra&#8217;\u00a0(2000) and\u00a0&#8216;Going to the Theatre&#8217;\u00a0(2002) &#8211; were released through\u00a0Projekt Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Audra has collaborated with Grammy-nominated producer\u00a0Robb Vallier\u00a0and\u00a0Robin Wilson (Gin Blossoms), as well as recording in his studio Uranus Recording. They have toured or otherwise performed with\u00a0Peter Murphy, The Mission UK, AFI, She Wants Revenge, Gene Loves Jezebel, New Model Army\u00a0and\u00a0Nitzer Ebb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Audra&#8217;s Bret Helm also made guest appearances with the dark cabaret band<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Black Tape for a Girl\u00a0on two albums, several compilations and dozens of live shows. He also recently recorded the\u00a0&#8216;Pretty Haunted Things&#8217;\u00a0album with dark folk collective Unto Ashes, also performing for the headline slot at 2019&#8217;s illustrious Wave Gotik Treffen Festival in Leipzig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released digitally on August 23, &#8216;Dear Tired Friends&#8217; is now also available on limited edition CD (300 copies) and vinyl (100 black, 50 smokey and 150 clear copies).
