After writing the first three songs on \u2019Winterreise\u2019, I suddenly thought about The Trout.<br><br>The Trout is a song by Schubert, with words from a poem by Christian Schubart. Schubert only sets the first three verses of Schubart\u2019s poem to music, which in their sum only tell a story about a\u00a0 man catching a fish. The fourth verse, which Schubert omits, reflects on the tale\u2019s allegory, in<br>which (translated), Schubart states \u201cGirls, watch seducers with the fishing rod! Otherwise, you will bleed too late\u201d<br><br>If the first nine songs of my \u2019Winterreise\u2019 are Schubert\u2019s, then Oh God, its last track, is Schubart\u2019s The Trout. Here every fuck-up is brought into focus, every past fuck-up and every fuck-up to come. It is a man going to confession after writing an album fat with melodramatic self pity. It is an operatic admission of wrongdoing. It was written in one eve&#8221;<\/em><br><br>The single is lifted from Jerskin&#8217;s anticipated debut album &#8216;Winterreise&#8217;, which is due out\u00a017th April\u00a0via\u00a0untitled<strong> <\/strong>recs.<br><br>The announcement also follows the recent release of Jerskin&#8217;s hyperactive sardonic pop belter <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"A Star Is Born (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/jerskin-fendrix-shares-new-video-for-a-star-is-born\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Star Is Born<\/a><\/em> and the conversely warped first single <em>Black Hair<\/em>, which was accompanied by haunting visuals made by\u00a0Liam Noonan, the artist behind the custom visuals at\u00a0London clubbing institution FOLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i2.cmail19.com\/ei\/j\/EC\/E97\/360\/011346\/csfinal\/ohgod_artwork-9900000000079e3c.jpg\" alt=\"Jerskin Fendrix Oh God single artwork\"\/><figcaption><em>Oh God<\/em> single artwork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Jerskin Fendrix has been carving himself a special place on the London scene. Starting out by releasing a trilogy of video singles that have already received high praise from a vast array of major publications. In 2018, he composed the score to an experimental absurdist opera &#8216;UBU&#8217; at the V&amp;A\u00a0(receiving\u00a04 stars from the Guardian), before embarking on a UK tour and joint single release with rock phenomenon\u00a0Black Midi.<br><br>As a classically trained pianist and violinist, Fendrix&#8217;s practice and ambition extends far beyond the realm of traditional songwriting. His\u00a0avant-garde take on electronic pop cannibalises and appropriates elements of pop culture at the service of very personal songs.\u00a0All of his material has an emotionally playful sarcastic take on the tropes of modern life, whilst also delving inwards. Most of all, it can\u2019t be easily pigeonholed.<br><br>\u2018Winterreise\u2019 is the fruit of Jerskin Fendrix\u2019s first 3 years as an artist. His debut album spans an improbable range of music, skimming UK Grime, Bruce Springsteen, Sibelius, Joanna Newsom, PC Music and \u201850s Doo-Wop without alighting. Jerskin\u2019s \u2018Winterreise,\u2019 named after Schubert\u2019s Winterreise, conveys the same message: if you spend too long writing a breakup album, something weird will happen.
