{"id":35689,"date":"2021-02-25T12:15:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T17:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=35689"},"modified":"2021-02-20T05:44:15","modified_gmt":"2021-02-20T10:44:15","slug":"zoon-shares-psychedelic-new-video-for-was-always-will-be","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=35689","title":{"rendered":"Zoon shares psychedelic new video for \u2018Was &#038; Always Will Be\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Zoongide\u2019ewin\u00a0(Zoon) continues to share from his\u00a0critically acclaimed and internationally celebrated debut album,\u00a0\u2018Bleached Wavves,\u2019\u00a0released via\u00a0Paper Bag Records\u00a0in June of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zoon reveals the new video\u00a0lifted from \u2018Bleached Wavves\u2019\u00a0<em>Was &amp; Always Will Be<\/em>\u00a0which incidentally,\u00a0one of the last tracks Daniel brought to\u00a0the record.\u00a0&#8220;<em>In our Ojibway tradition and something my mom taught me is that when the Creator has been good to you or has blessed your life you should always honour that,&#8221;<\/em> notes Daniel.\u00a0&#8220;<em>Ways to do that are helping others in need or being mindful in your everyday life or in living the &#8216;good life&#8217;. \u00a0For &#8216;Was &amp; Always Will Be&#8217; I wanted to show that gratitude so I chant &#8216;Yahweh&#8217;\u00a0throughout the song, which is an indigenous word for &#8216;Creator&#8217;. The first traditional song I learned as a child had the chant &#8216;Yaaahweh Yaaahweh,\u00a0Yahweh ho&#8217;\u00a0and that rhythm followed me everywhere I went and undoubtedly transferred into my music as an adult.\u00a0 Whether you believe in a Creator or not it\u2019s hard to miss the beautiful things that happen in life so it\u2019s always good practice to show gratitude.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><br><br>Zoon had a vision of incorporating a sense of flight to the video something director\u00a0John Smith\u00a0also\u00a0intuited in the video treatment.&#8221;<em>I was experimenting with different visuals to represent this song, then Daniel came to the table with this great drone footage that his friend had shot &#8212; I really just ran with\u00a0that,&#8221;<\/em> says John.\u00a0<em>&#8220;I was able to dig a bit more into the traditional &#8216;psychedelic&#8217; style of editing and colour palettes that I think you can only get away with when you pair it with a wonderfully\u00a0hypnotic song such as this one. When you start to do that, you become self aware. And when you become self aware it opens you up to a lot of different opportunities, like self love.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Daniel further\u00a0expands on his personal and musical journeys and shares tracks from\u00a0\u2018Bleached Wavves\u2019. &#8220;<em>It&#8217;s a pretty amazing\u00a0record, Daniel&#8221; says CBC &#8216;q&#8217; host\u00a0Tom Power\u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t know\u00a0what I was expecting when I put it on, but I was kind of blown away by it.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Bleached Wavves\u2019 details<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>On\u00a0\u2018Bleached Wavves,\u2019 Zoon\u00a0paints a message of hope and fortitude, lessons he learned studying the Seven Grandfather teachings after experiencing the lowest point of his life and channeling it all through the shoegaze filter with\u00a0nods of\u00a0inspiration to one of his favourite and formative bands,\u00a0<em>My Bloody Valentine<\/em>. The creation of the LP was a testament to Daniel&#8217;s ability to reverse engineer with minimal gear (his guitar and a digital delay pedal)\u00a0and recording at his home\u00a0the intricate sounds and layers of music\u00a0texture he heard in his head. In his teens he was victimized for his First Nations heritage, which led to him abusing drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism. His best friend died of an overdose; Daniel nearly followed him on multiple occasions.
