The track is the latest single lifted for her debut solo EP,\u00a0\u2018Tether\u2019\u00a0out\u00a0February 26\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/jfe30e\/3m9fkn\/nm60ok\">pre-order<\/a>). The chords and lyrics came together in less than an hour, almost as if led by an invisible hand.<br><br>My mom was one of the funniest people I\u2019ve ever known. When she passed, I used to say that she&#8217;d probably haunt me for a good laugh. There were countless nights where I\u2019d be lying in bed, waiting for a presence to reveal itself.\u00a0<br><br>A few months later, I saw the film Personal Shopper. Kristen Stewart plays a woman grieving the loss of her twin brother. The two had believed they were mediums and agreed whoever passed first would give the other a sign from beyond. Stewart\u2019s character becomes obsessed in her anticipation, which resonated with me on an eerily similar level.<\/em>\u201d <br><br><em>Bones\/Dust<\/em> is available on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/jfe30e\/3m9fkn\/zz80ok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all streaming platforms now<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month Nicole Marxen revealed the official video the EP&#8217;s title track. The video which was directed by\u00a0Judd Myers\u00a0&#8211; watch it via <a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/jfe30e\/3m9fkn\/vka1ok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">YouTube<\/a>.\u00a0On the song, Nicole Marxen says, &#8220;&#8216;<em>Tether\u2019 is about navigating the vast landscape of loss. In many ways, it was a crucial first step in my own grieving process and self-discovery as a songwriter.&#8221;<\/em> She adds, &#8220;<em>Being so rooted in showmanship, I hadn\u2019t explored such vulnerability in my work before. When I began to shift my efforts inward, I found that my truth very much needed to be expressed. The song serves as a reminder to hold space for myself.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0<em>Tether<\/em> is available now on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.e2ma.net\/click\/jfe30e\/3m9fkn\/bdb1ok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all streaming platforms<\/a>\u00a0to add to your favourite playlists.<br><br>Nicole Marxen&#8217;s project Midnight Opera received praise for their &#8220;<em>unpredictable songwriting; waterfalls of catharsis; gorgeous, haunting melodies.\u201d<\/em> Their visual feast live performances, a meld of opulent set design, choreography, and costumes, awarded the band the title of\u00a0\u201cBest Group Act\u201d from The Dallas Observer in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About \u2018Tether\u2019<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicole Marxen is known as one of the shiny dark innovators behind acclaimed avant-garde pop band\u00a0Midnight Opera, her solo debut\u00a0\u2018Tether\u2019\u00a0is a meditation on the grieving process. Following the sudden passing of her mother, Marxen explores grief through the lens of a crystal\u2014multifaceted among jagged and lustrous planes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>I used to think that my life wasn\u2019t worth writing about,<\/em>\u201d says Marxen. \u201c<em>I hid behind the characters I created, the haven of the stage, the armor of costume. My art was elaborate escapism.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EP&#8217;s title track finds itself traversing the vast, desert landscape of loss. Recorded at John Congleton\u2019s studio, Elmwood, with Alex Bhore (formerly of This Will Destroy You), unresolved emotions began to take shape. Grief cannot be overcome, only carried.
