PVA have returned with the release of two new remixes of their critically acclaimed single Talks<\/em>. The remixes come from black midi\u2019s DJ Dairy and Squid\u2019s INK, and follow the band\u2019s debut EP \u2018Toner\u2019 which was released last November via Ninja Tune imprint Big Dada (Young Fathers, Kae Tempest, Roots Manuva etc.)

Speaking about his remix DJ Dairy says, \u201cThis remix was super fun to make and a great relief from the boredom and stress of the first lockdown last April, the original bangs absolutely and hopefully this does it justice!\u201d<\/em>

Squid’s Laurie Nankivell also commented on the INK remix saying, “We started this just before the UK went into its first lockdown and as a result our creative process became scattered from one house to two computers. This remix is representative of that alongside a pining for the lack of a good boogy we were about to endure!”<\/em>

Talks<\/em> was the insistent and\u00a0propulsive first release to come from PVA\u2019s debut EP \u2018Toner\u2019. Produced by the mercurial\u00a0Dan Carey\u00a0(black midi, Bat For Lashes, Fontaines D.C.), the EP saw the trio earn plaudits across a wide-range of press and radio including placements in multiple end of year lists such as: the NME 100 list, DIY\u2019s Class of 2021, Dork\u2019s 2021 Hype List, Fred Perry\u2019s One\u2019s To Watch 2021 and more.

Talks<\/em> also had two previous remixes that featured on the EP by Grammy-winning producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist\u00a0Mura Masa, an early fan of the trio, and fellow South London producer and artist\u00a0Lynks. They can be heard\u00a0here<\/a>.

Speaking about the single, producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Josh Baxter says:\u00a0\u201cTalks is about how we invent games in order to avoid expressing our true feelings or take the risk of being hurt. The song also takes inspiration from real relationships and the fictional relationship between John & Abigail Marston (the two main characters in video game Red Dead Redemption).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PVA initially formed\u00a0in the aftermath of a house party in 2018 and the three-piece\u00a0have since earned a fearsome reputation as one of the capital\u2019s premier live outfits, garnering hardcore support before even setting inside a studio.

Since their formation, PVA\u2019s raucous live performances\u00a0– whether that be as a full band or\u00a0their famed early hour DJ sets –\u00a0had been the band\u2019s focal point.\u00a0These last couple of\u00a0years have seen the trio turn The Windmill in Brixton into a second home, whilst regular shows at The Five Bells and the Bunker in Deptford defined PVA as a big part of the local music community in their early career.

In a time of uncertainty for live music, the band\u2019s studio prowess is jubilantly now coming to the fore. The group meld industrial miasma, new-wave, post-punk and a focused pop swagger in one pungent multi-genre cocktail, which has won them fans up and down the country, as well as recent support slots with the likes of Squid, HMLTD, Dry Cleaning and The Orielles.

\u2018Toner\u2019 is only PVA\u2019s first EP, but it teems with excitement. Never for a minute does it sit still, skipping between ideas\u00a0with instinctive ease, bringing to light a broad palate of sounds and influences. Notably, on Mura Masa\u2019s remix, Harris\u2019 previously inconspicuous line \u201cthe best is yet to come\u201d is reluctantly brought to the front. Perhaps then, this serves as a reminder that although seemingly fully-formed already and among\u00a0the glorious chaos of \u2018Toner\u2019, this is simply the first chapter of a book we\u2019ll be re-reading for years to come.
