Malik\u00a0and produced by his hologram company\u00a0Jadu, the video shows Pussy Riot\u2019s Nadya Tolokonnikova, a Russian conceptual artist, political activist and founder of Pussy Riot, in hologram form journeying through various virtual worlds. The protest art group is turning 10 this year, and their debut studio album \u2018RAGE\u2019 is coming later this year.<br><br>The track <em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em> is a first hand account of a person struggling with life overwhelmed by panic disorder, produced by a GRAMMY-nominated\u00a0Chris Greatti\u00a0(Yungblud, Poppy) and\u00a0Kudzu\u00a0(ITSOKTOCRY), a juxtaposition of a pop-rock emotional chorus and dark, heavy trap verses.<br><br>Nadya Tolokonnikova:\u00a0<em>&#8220;After serving two years in a labour camp, I&#8217;m still struggling with mental health issues. Trauma, fear and insecurity never fully go away, causing depression episodes and deep anxiety.<\/em><br><br><em><em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em>\u00a0was born as the result of me staring at the wall for 24 hours in the middle of the pandemic, feeling 100% helpless. I was trying to write something uplifting to encourage people to get through the tough times. But I was just failing and failing. Magically, at the second I allowed myself to be honest and write about despair I was experiencing, I wrote the track in like a half an hour.<br><br>Depression is a plague of the 21th century, and it tells me that there&#8217;s something broken in the way we treat each other. The video <em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em> reflects on objectification of human beings, loneliness, disconnection from the environment that causes us to feel small and powerless. And it&#8217;s us who caused it with our own hands &#8211; that&#8217;s why in the end of the video I&#8217;m fighting with my own clone.&#8221;<\/em><br><br><em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em> marries the virtual world building found in video games with the magic of a music video using state of the art volumetric capture. 106 cameras were used to capture footage of Nadya from all angles to create a photoreal hologram. Ruben Fro, a Tokyo based creative technologist, then built out various 3D worlds in which Nadya\u2019s performance unfolds. The result is an engaging music video that takes the viewer on a journey as Nadya\u2019s surroundings devolve from a colorful idyllic video game to a toxic waste land. The video culminates in a final boss fight where Nadya faces her own clone.<br><br><em>\u201cI knew that <em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em>\u00a0was my favourite Pussy Riot song when Nadya first played me the demo,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0said director Asad J. Malik.\u00a0<em>\u201cThe song\u2019s producer Chris Greati, Nadya and I have become really good friends over the last year and this has been a fantastic opportunity to make art together. As a director focused completely on AR, this is my first time releasing a 2D video. We used the same techniques we use to create immersive experiences for our app Jadu. However, this time we didn\u2019t have the limitations of running on mobile devices and could push the technology to it\u2019s limit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>PANIC ATTACK<\/em> marks the first music video credit for director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/goldatl.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1629568b93b4cdd8b1bce89f0&amp;id=a711fe7637&amp;e=964e5dc542\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Asad J. Malik<\/a>, a pioneer in AR storytelling known for festival standouts Terminal 3 (Tribeca 2018) and A Jester\u2019s Tale (Sundance 2019). Over the last year Malik\u2019s company Jadu has been building holograms of various musical artists that fans can view in 3D using their app. This includes artists like Lil Nas X, K Camp, Omar Apollo and Dorian Electra.
