Fontaines D.C. have announced they will be releasing a\u00a0special live performance from Dublin’s Kilmainham Gaol on vinyl as part of this year’s Record Store Day celebrations.\u00a0\u2018Live at Kilmainham Gaol\u2019\u00a0will be a Record Store Day exclusive release\u00a0on 12 June.

The performance in the former prison was recorded live on 14 July 2020 as part of the\u00a0Other Voices Courage Series<\/a>\u00a0on the Irish television channel RT\u00c9, with the band playing a selection of songs from both\u00a0\u2018Dogrel\u2019 and\u00a0\u2018A Hero’s Death\u2019. \u00a0The release\u00a0arrives on 180g heavyweight black LP in a gatefold jacket and includes an exclusive poster.

Dublin historian\u00a0Donal Fallon has written an essay on the significance of Kilmainham Gaol, which features on the back cover. As he so eloquently writes:

“It is an old cliche for historians to ask \u2018if these walls could speak, what would they tell us?\u2019 Fortunately, the walls of Kilmainham Gaol tell us exactly how they feel. Faded with time, but still stubbornly there, are the messages of Ireland\u2019s revolutionary generations. Over one door are the quoted words of Patrick H. Pearse, poet and leader of the Easter Rising, thundering \u2018Beware of the Risen People.\u2019 Perhaps the most evocative piece of graffiti in the prison reads simply \u2018A Few Men Faithful and a Deathless Dream.\u2019”<\/em>

The Grammy and BRIT Award-nominated band will also be the subject of an\u00a0Other Voices Fontaines D.C. TV special, airing on April 8th at 11pm BST, which will be shown as part of\u00a0Other Voices Series 19. This will include the Kilmainham Gaol performance plus an interview with the band. It will be broadcast via\u00a0RT\u00c9 2 in Ireland and will then be available to watch back on the\u00a0RT\u00c9 Player worldwide.
