To mark the news, he shared the album\u2019s&nbsp;lead single <em>Kill My Ego <\/em>(out now) and a trippy&nbsp;stop motion music video&nbsp;animated by Cut42 and directed by Karbal\u2019s live keys player Corben Lamb. Two weeks of wailers and yogis. On the last day, in the center of the village, at the final cremation ceremony, I had an out of body experience. I was looking at my Dad from across the fire pit, he was sobbing so much and looked exhausted from two weeks of non-stop crying.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cOnce I was back in my body I felt so strongly that ego was the cause of all of this suffering. All of us, we&#8217;re in a way, inviting all this grief. We&#8217;re so wrapped up in our identities, our places in society, our expectations of the future and regrets of the past. All of these things are forms of exclusivity. Killing your ego is about tuning out all that noise!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More about Munkey Junkey<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Eagle-eyed obsessives may recognise Karbal as front man of alt-folk\/indie band&nbsp;Kurran and The Wolfnotes, who signed to&nbsp;Chess Club Records&nbsp;for a string of singles back in 2010. Influenced by&nbsp;Frank Ocean, Daft Punk, Tame Impala, Grandaddy&nbsp;and&nbsp;Bright Eyes, his high-production-value, experimental approach to lo-fi hip hop is both a stark departure from, and indebted to, his former sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in New York, and of Indian and British descent, Karbal\u2019s international sound takes inspiration from the geography of his life, including periods spent in the UK, Abu Dhabi, India, and Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking the Munkey Junkey moniker from our animalistic impulses and primate origins that Karbal sees humanity as not being all that far past, he began to release music under the project back in 2019 with two singles\u2014<em>Look Out Below<\/em> and <em>Cut Me Off<\/em>\u2014and debut EP&nbsp;\u2018Going Pro At Letting Go,\u2019 followed by 2020 standalone single <em>Reverse<\/em> and three track sophomore EP&nbsp;\u2018Numbness,\u2019 most recently co-writing and producing two songs for the hit&nbsp;Cartoon Network animation Adventure Time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He picked up early support from&nbsp;BBC introducing, Hilly Dilly, FAME Magazine, Euphoria Zine, Bido Lito, Popped Music, Planet Slop&nbsp;and more, and also appeared at the M&amp;S Bank Arena Liverpool for the 2020&nbsp;Liverpool Digital Music Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featuring several tracks co-written with&nbsp;Simon Tong (Gorillaz, The Verve), his forthcoming debut album&nbsp;\u2018Bitter<em> <\/em>Chitta\u2019 was recorded and self-produced at Karbal\u2019s own studio in Birkenhead with his live band (Nathan Peers, Ben Truman and Corben Lamb) and Liverpool guitar-pop singer&nbsp;Zuzu, and mastered by Loic Gaillard at Liverpool\u2019s legendary&nbsp;Motor Museum Studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201c&#8217;Bitter Chitta&#8217; is an oxymoron,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>says Karbal of the album\u2019s title.&nbsp;<em>\u201c&#8217;Chitta&#8217; is a hindu term, basically referring to a higher dimension of yourself beyond identity and even beyond this universe.
