Hatched at the end of a very creative period that produced the material that will constitute a new body of work, <em>Neon Cheap<\/em> &#8211; an undoubted career highlight &#8211;&nbsp;was written when all the touring for their \u2018Hurts To Laugh\u2019 EP was cancelled due to the pandemic.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poetic as ever, musical polymath and Methyl Ethel\u2019s centre-piece Jake Webb transports us from faces in phones to his world, where <em>Neon Cheap<\/em> was born: <em>\u201cPicture yourself scrolling, mind-numbingly&nbsp;at 3am. Now, instead of scrolling, you\u2019re traipsing some Vegas-like strip. All the events and people you\u2019d normally read about are there as you walk around, inoculated, casually observing. For me, this is \u2018Neon Cheap.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Neon Cheap<\/em> is Talking Heads by way of ELO with a dash of something celestial; beginning with an undulating vocal sample from an Italian folk song and climaxing with an irrepressible chorus, destined to be echoed by festival-going hordes. <em>Neon Cheap<\/em> once again illustrates Methyl Ethel\u2019s canny ability to create wholly addictive pop earworms.
