{"id":38030,"date":"2022-05-19T12:15:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-19T16:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=38030"},"modified":"2022-05-15T15:43:19","modified_gmt":"2022-05-15T19:43:19","slug":"polica-share-new-single-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=38030","title":{"rendered":"POLI\u00c7A share new single \u2018Violence\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following the recent singles, <em>Rotting<\/em> and <em>Alive<\/em> that scored support at\u00a0The FADER, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NME, Consequence, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar\u00a0and more,\u00a0POLI\u00c7A<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>have shared their new track,\u00a0<em>Violence<\/em>.\u00a0The Minneapolis-based project of\u00a0singer, Channy Leaneagh,\u00a0producer, Ryan Olson, bassist, Chris Bierden and drummers, Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson will release their\u00a0new album\u00a0\u2018Madness\u2019\u00a0on\u00a0June 3\u00a0via\u00a0Memphis Industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking about <em>Violence<\/em>, Channy of the band says:\u00a0\u201c<em>Along with the core members of the band, the new single &#8216;Violence&#8217; brings on some of Poli\u00e7a\u2019s favourite collaborators like Velvet Negroni\u2019s Jermey Nutzman, Boys Noize, Dustin Zahn, CJ Camererie and Aaron Baum to bring a slow-building dance-ish take on someone else\u2019s problems.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recorded mostly from 2020-2021 in Ryan Olson\u2019s Minneapolis studio with\u00a0lyrics written and recorded by Channy Leaneagh,\u00a0\u2018Madness\u2019\u00a0is an\u00a0experimental expansion of the four-piece family band of Chris Bierden (bass), Drew\u00a0Christopherson and Ben Ivascu (drums) to include the anthropomorphic production tool\u00a0\u201cAllOvers(c)\u201d, designed by Olson and fellow producer &amp; sound-artist Seth Rosetter.\u00a0\u2018Madness\u2019\u00a0continues within the collaborative enclave in which\u00a0POLI\u00c7A resides and includes co-production by Dustin Zahn\u00a0Alex Ridha and\u00a0Alex Nutter.\u00a0The lyrics and startling artwork for\u00a0<em>Madness\u00a0<\/em>are summed up by Channy as follows:<em>\u00a0\u201cI am here for you all and I am never truly myself here. Channy was in the process of emerging from a personal and creative breakup, with this informing much of the lyrical content of the songs.\u00a0 The resulting debut album, 2012&#8217;s\u00a0\u2018Give You The Ghost,\u2019 immediately garnered international acclaim, with Rolling Stone hailing it as &#8220;<em>the sound of heartbreak and celebration happening simultaneously&#8221;<\/em> and Q praising it as <em>&#8220;a bewitching, urgent, magical debut.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Bon Iver meanwhile declared that POLI\u00c7A was the \u201c<em>best band I&#8217;ve ever heard\u201d<\/em> and Jay-Z weighed in with a co-sign.\u00a0The record became known for Channy&#8217;s electronically manipulated vocals (using a TC-Helicon voice processor) that lent the album much of its uniqueness as heard on tracks such as\u00a0Lay Your Cards Out\u00a0and\u00a0Dark Star.<br><br>The quick success of \u2018Give You The Ghost\u2019 brought with it a heavy touring schedule and an itch to keep creating. Taking just a few months off from the road, the band ventured into the studio and came out with their follow-up,\u00a0Shulamith, named after radical feminist Shulamith Firestone, in the fall of 2013.\u00a0 The record featured stand-out tracks <em>Tiff<\/em> featuring Bon Iver\u2019s Justin Vernon and\u00a0Chain My Name\u00a0a moment of sparkling electronic pop on a record of darker sounds and themes than their debut.\u00a0 Interestingly the album\u2019s cover was banned by Apple Music requiring them to heavily pixelate the image of a woman dying her hair red.\u00a0Shulamith\u00a0was another critical hit with MOJO saying it &#8220;<em>proves that intelligent pop music still has the ability to seduce and enthrall\u201d<\/em> and, bolstered by a live lineup of dual drummers Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu and bass and backing vocals from Chris Bierdan, POLI\u00c7A conquered massive festivals around the world from Coachella to Glastonbury in addition to performing on Late\u00a0Night\u00a0With Jimmy Fallon and multiple slots on Later With Jools Holland. \u00a0<br><br>There followed a period of recuperation back home in Minneapolis in which time Channy and Ryan started a family.\u00a0Slowly songs appeared, influenced by motherhood and the growing social unrest in the USA.\u00a0 The resulting album, 2016\u2019s \u2018United Crushers,\u2019 named after tags that appear on many abandoned buildings around Minneapolis, was a crisper, less bleak affair as demonstrated on lead single\u00a0Lime Habit.\u00a0\u00a0United Crushers\u00a0was also notable for having band members Drew, Ben and Chris contribute more to the recording and, with the vocal processing dialled down, the album had more of a live feel.\u00a0As with the previous two albums a whirlwind of touring, festivals and media appearances followed.\u00a0Channy became an in demand featured vocalist, performing on releases by Lane 8, trance DJ Sasha and Leftfield\u2019s\u00a0Alternative Light Source\u00a0album.\u00a0POLI\u00c7A also worked with Berlin neo-classical collective s t a r g a z e, an intriguing musical pairing brought about by their involvement with Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon\u2019s collaborative PEOPLE (now branded 37d03d0) collective. The resulting highly experimental album\u00a0Music For a Long Emergency\u00a0was released in 2018.<br><br>In 2018, POLI\u00c7A began work on their fourth album but near-tragedy followed. As Channy was clearing snow from her roof she fell and had to physically drag herself into her house to call for help.\u00a0\u00a0She had smashed her L1 vertebrae and battered\u00a0her spine, leaving her in a brace with limited mobility for months.\u00a0 While recovering, Leaneagh\u2019s doctor told her to focus not only on physical healing, but to meditate on the mental act of healing as well \u2013 working to erase the anger, regrets, and fear she felt about her fall.\u00a0 On the resulting LP\u00a0When We Stay Alive, released in 2020, Channy realized the power in restructuring her inner self.\u00a0 POLI\u00c7A managed one European tour on\u00a0When We Stay Alive\u00a0ending in Portugal in March 2020 before the pandemic hit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The songs on the new 7 track, 31-minute release\u00a0\u2018Madness\u2019\u00a0are something of a companion piece to\u00a0When We Stay Alive\u00a0and represent\u00a0a potential endpoint to the first phase of POLI\u00c7A\u2019s existence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mcusercontent.com\/4c25773ce0262fea87830a367\/images\/8e473b98-b438-1f29-a42c-8d2399618f13.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018<em>Madness<\/em>\u2019 track list<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/showyourbonespr.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=4c25773ce0262fea87830a367&amp;id=26fa00fada&amp;e=718aede610\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alive<\/a><br>2.\u00a0Violence<br>3.
