This will be their first for\u00a0Merge Records,\u00a0due\u00a0March 31. Newman<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>explains about the track. \u201c<em>The narrator that only likes art when it changes the subject, buried in daydream, thinking it\u2019s an entrance, and the idea of Pontius Pilate entertaining his friends with home movies of the crucifixion (what else would he be showing? That part\u2019s clear, right?). It was a product of being stuck at home at a time when online was the only way for many to communicate, and obviously it had its negatives. One of those songs that might seem like word salad but is not, its disjointed nature very deliberate.\u201d<\/em><br><br>The band previously shared the record\u2019s first single, <em>Really Really Light,<\/em> alongside a\u00a0Christian Cerezo-directed video; watch it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/prescriptionpr.cmail19.com\/t\/j-l-ejlihdd-ejlihlkhu-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here<\/a>.\u00a0Most recently they debuted the album track <em>Angelcover<\/em>, listen <a href=\"https:\/\/prescriptionpr.cmail19.com\/t\/j-l-ejlihdd-ejlihlkhu-d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here<\/a>.<br><br>The album is available to\u00a0pre-save\/pre-order\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/prescriptionpr.cmail19.com\/t\/j-l-ejlihdd-ejlihlkhu-h\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">here<\/a>.<br><br>Newman began work on\u00a0<em>Continue as a Guest<\/em>\u00a0at his Woodstock, New York home over the course of a year, after the band had just finished touring behind 2019\u2019s\u00a0\u2018In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights\u2019. During the writing and recording process, he discovered new lyrical, artistic and sonic approaches experimenting with his own vocal register.<br><br>The 10-track record is produced by Newman and features compatriots\u00a0Neko\u00a0Case, Kathryn Calder,\u00a0John Collins,\u00a0Todd Fancey\u00a0and\u00a0Joe Seiders\u00a0as well as contributions from saxophonist\u00a0Zach Djanikian\u00a0and co-writes from\u00a0Dan Bejar\u00a0(Destroyer) and\u00a0Sadie Dupuis\u00a0(Speedy Ortiz, Sad13).\u00a0<br><br>The album tackles themes of isolation and collapse, following the ambivalence of day-to-day life during the pandemic and the endless pitfalls of living online. But Newman says that\u00a0\u2018<em>Continue as a Guest<\/em>\u2019\u2019s title track also addresses the continually rolling concerns that come with being in a band for so long. \u201c<em>The idea of continuing as a guest felt very apropos to the times,\u201d<\/em> he explains. \u201c<em>Feeling out of place in culture, in society &#8211; not feeling like a part of any zeitgeist, but happy to be separate and living your simple life, your long fade-out. \u00a0Find your own little nowhere, find some space to fall apart, continue as a guest.\u201d<\/em><br><br>The New Pornographers have previously released eight studio albums, including their classic debut,\u00a0\u2018Mass Romantic,\u2019 reissued in 2021 to celebrate the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of its premiere. Their latest,\u00a0\u2018In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights,\u2019 debuted at #2 on the\u00a0<em>Billboard\u00a0<\/em>Alternative Chart, #6 on the\u00a0<em>Billboard\u00a0<\/em>Rock Chart and #15 on the\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u00a0Album Chart.
