Toronto-London collective\u00a0The Flowers Of Hell\u00a0announce the\u00a0first vinyl pressing of their cult classic\u00a0\u2018Odes\u2019 album<\/a>, to be released\u00a0on April 22nd\u00a0for\u00a0Record Store Day UK. With a deluxe die-cut sleeve, this 180-gram red coloured pressing will be released via\u00a0Space Age Recordings\u00a0<\/a>(known for its tightly curated roster with releases from\u00a0Spacemen 3, Spectrum, The Telescopes, Acid Mothers Temple and\u00a0The Silver Apples).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lou Reed began the final episode of his\u00a0BBC6 \/ Sirius-XM New York Shuffle radio show<\/a>\u00a0in 2012 premiering three tracks from this covers album, declaring the release to be \u201cAn amazing, amazing album\u201d and praising it as, \u201cSo beautiful and great\u201d and \u201cExquisite\u201d, amongst other compliments shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On ‘Odes’, the group pay tribute to some of their favourite songs and influences, creating orchestral-pop covers of works by\u00a0Bob Dylan, Klaatu, Stereolab, Laurie Anderson, The Velvet Underground, Siouxsie & the Banshees\u00a0and\u00a0Neutral Milk Hotel, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Flowers Of Hell’s mastermind\u00a0Greg Jarvis\u00a0notes, \u201cLou Reed\u2019s praise meant more to us than a Grammy ever would,”<\/em> says \u00a0“It also meant all the time I spent in my youth smoking weed while listening to The Velvet Underground wasn\u2019t a waste \u2013 it was research!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The album features appearances from\u00a0Sea Power\u2019s Neil \u2018Hamilton\u2019 Wilkinson\u00a0and\u00a0Abi Fry (Bat For Lashes, Sea Power),\u00a0Prague underground legend\u00a0Ivo Posp\u00ed\u0161il and the Plastic People Of The Universe. Recorded in Toronto, ‘Odes’ was co-produced by the band & Grammy winning engineer\u00a0Peter J. Moore\u00a0(Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer), who returned to remastered it for vinyl.

Ahead of Record Store Day, the band presents a new video for their rendition of\u00a0Joy <\/strong>Division\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>Atmosphere<\/em>. Released in the months before Ian Curtis\u2019s death in 1980 and becoming a\u00a0de facto\u00a0<\/em>eulogy for both him and the band, this song had long been a touchstone for The Flowers Of Hell with the group\u2019s earliest lineup sometimes\u00a0playing it at rehearsals.
