Home Counties\u00a0have shared new single Dividing Lines<\/em>, the fizzing final taste of the band’s anticipated debut album ‘Exactly As It Seems’, out\u00a03rd\u00a0May\u00a0via\u00a0Submarine Cat Records.\u00a0The band have also\u00a0announced\u00a0a stripped back live performance and signing at Third Man Records’ Blue Basement on album release day (tickets\u00a0here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing from a broad-ranging pocket\u00a0of influences:\u00a0early 2000s pop, the \u201cdopamine overload\u201d of\u00a0Confidence Man\u2019s live shows, to\u00a0<\/strong>LCD Soundsystem,\u00a0The Slits, and the nuanced art-rock of \u2018Remain In Light\u2019\/\u2019Speaking In Tongues\u2019-era\u00a0Talking Heads,\u00a0on\u00a0debut album \u2018Exactly As It Seems\u2019, Home Counties unanimously lean into a fun, exploratory way of thinking.

‘Exactly As It Seems’ will feature previously released cuts including\u00a0their\u00a0sharp-witted address of renting in London\u00a0“You Break It, You Bought It<\/a>“,\u00a0\u00a0“Uptight<\/a>” – described by\u00a0BBC Radio 1’s\u00a0Jack Saunders\u00a0as\u00a0“a post-punk mirror maze of electronics”<\/em>,\u00a0the\u00a0“sprightly bossa nova rhythms”<\/em>\u00a0[Sunday Times Culture] of\u00a0“Wild Guess<\/a>” and their glitchy ode to east London “Bethnal Green<\/a>“.

Final album taster and new single Dividing Lines<\/em> (originally operating under the working title Cowbell<\/em> – for obvious reasons) surges out of the gates; a groove-stacked\u00a0consideration of barriers to entry\u00a0across a spread of cultural topics.\u00a0Land ownership, the fickle\u00a0end of the music industry, cryptocurrency &\u00a0“fast cars” are all carefully reviewed, as the band deftly toe\u00a0a tightrope of sonic references. From dance-punk and\u00a0synth-pop to art-punk and unabashed, agitated\u00a0pop, Dividing Lines<\/em> is another intriguing insight into the band’s debut full length.

Speaking more on the initial inspiration behind\u00a0Dividing Lines<\/em>, vocalist\/guitarist Will Harrison said:\u00a0“The inspiration for \u2018Dividing Lines\u2019 came from moving back home to the countryside during lockdown and having little to do except walk. From encountering countless \u2018no trespass\u2019 signs and barbed wire fences, I became obsessed with the right to roam and land reform. Revisiting a demo called \u2018Cowbell\u2019 about the insularity of the post-punk scene of the time, I started drawing parallels between the social exclusion of land ownership and similar tendencies within the music industry.

Both the landed gentry and the music industry tend to reproduce themselves only within a closed social circle, and often along familial lines. There\u2019s also a similar reliance on informal arrangements, the \u2018no contracts signed\u2019 nature of the industry which helps upkeep its exclusivity, maintaining similar dividing lines to that of landowners vs the rest.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
