Originally released in 1980 as <em>Nowhere Girl<\/em> by British post-punk band B-Movie, the song has become a touchstone for dark wave acts to this day who have found musical inspiration in the song\u2019s dark atmospheres as well as its lyrical themes of alienation. Le\u00e6ther Strip\u2019s version trades the original\u2019s bright, brittle keyboards for a more visceral, grittier sound that reflects the song\u2019s importance to the evolution of electronic music across the decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another notable feature of the new version is, of course, the gender swap of the song\u2019s subject. The move serves as a poignant statement of identity and expression from Le\u00e6ther Strip mastermind Claus Larsen, one of the few openly homosexual figures in the often hetero male-dominated realm of industrial and dark wave music.
