Lunchbox\u2019s legendary lost<\/em> album \u2018Evolver\u2019 is lost no more! After more than two decades, this psychedelic gem has been remastered to perfection and is finally getting the release it always deserved\u2014on CD, cassette, and, for the first time ever, vinyl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally recorded in the band\u2019s basement in 1990s Oakland\u2014between stints in Berlin, London tour dates, and dreamy escapes to the Mendocino coastline\u2014\u2018Evolver\u2019 blends jangle pop, ambient textures, and dub-infused experimentation into something truly magical. It\u2019s a sonic time capsule from a moment when the band threw out the rulebook and let the music guide them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With cascading loops, dubbed-out horns, swirling tape echoes, and otherworldly synths, Evolver<\/em> is both hypnotic and hook-filled, a post-pop psychedelic odyssey unlike anything else in Lunchbox\u2019s catalog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make this reissue even more special, the band dug into their vaults and unearthed three unreleased tracks, adding new dimensions to the album\u2019s already trippy flow. And for vinyl lovers, this expanded double LP pressing includes a vinyl-exclusive<\/em> fourth side filled with beats, loops, interludes, and sonic ephemera lifted straight from the original master tapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Story Behind \u2018Evolver\u2019 \u2013 From Tim Brown<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Evolver\u2019 was born from three places:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Oakland\u2019s Rockridge neighborhood<\/strong> \u2013 Where we lived in the legendary \u201cShafterhouse,\u201d a hub of musical experimentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The Mendocino coast<\/strong> \u2013 A rugged, mystical landscape that inspired Donna\u2019s evocative album artwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Berlin, Germany<\/strong> \u2013 Our home in the mid-late \u201990s, where we soaked in post-Wall underground club culture, played shows in legendary spaces (including a techno-squat with a hole in the floor leading to an all-night jungle rave), and got lost in the city\u2019s crumbling beauty.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    This album was a product of pure creative freedom. I was supposed to be working on my graduate dissertation at Berkeley, but instead, I spent my time crafting songs in the basement, influenced by drum \u2018n\u2019 bass, dub, indie pop, and a deepening psychedelic awareness. It was the first and only time we made a record purely for ourselves, without any concern for how it would be received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Technology played a key role\u2014primitive tape decks, half-broken synths, a 1971 Micromoog, a Mattel Optigan (a toy keyboard that played optical samples), and an Everett home organ that conjured dreamy, unexpected chord progressions. We layered sounds, ran tape delays, and let the machines guide us. This album wasn\u2019t planned; it was channeled.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And now, thanks to Slumberland Records, \u2018Evolver\u2019 finally gets the release it always deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
