Alongside the announcement, they\u2019ve unleashed a brand new single, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/lnk.to\/qOw0uC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">OSMIUM 1<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, and it&#8217;s a wild one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=737862406\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"https:\/\/osmiumosmium.bandcamp.com\/album\/osmium\">OSMIUM by OSMIUM <\/a><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><br>If you\u2019ve been following their journey since their debut live set at Unsound, you already know this crew is stacked. We&#8217;ve got <strong>Hildur Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir<\/strong>, the Oscar-winning Icelandic composer whose resume reads like a who&#8217;s-who of experimental royalty (Pan Sonic, Throbbing Gristle, Sunn O))), Fennesz\u2026 plus those tiny projects <em>Chernobyl<\/em> and <em>T\u00e1r<\/em>). Joining her is <strong>James Ginzburg<\/strong>, co-founder of Emptyset and Subtext Recordings; <strong>Rully Shabara<\/strong>, the hypnotic voice behind Senyawa; and <strong>Sam Slater<\/strong>, Grammy-winning producer and sound sorcerer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, OSMIUM don\u2019t just make music \u2014 they forge it. Expect a molten brew of electroacoustic textures, metallic drones, jagged rhythms, and raw, unfiltered human-machine hybrid vocals. This isn&#8217;t a record trying to paint some sterile future \u2014 it&#8217;s more like watching the past, present, and future melt into each other in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While genres are nodded at \u2014 folk, doom metal, minimalism, industrial, extreme noise \u2014 nothing stays bolted down. The sound shapeshifts, just like the questions the group wrestles with: humans vs. machines, tradition vs. progression, the solo voice vs. the collective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fun fact<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hildur plays a <em>halldorophone<\/em> (think: cello on a mind-bending feedback loop).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sam\u2019s smashing rhythms out of a self-built, self-oscillating drum machine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>James pulls cavernous bass sounds from a custom instrument inspired by ancient resonators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And Rully? Rully\u2019s voice <em>is<\/em> his instrument \u2014 bending and breaking into sounds that barely feel human.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of it is tied together by a custom-built robotic system that keeps the whole chaotic storm moving. And even though Rully\u2019s only using his voice, his otherworldly techniques have been so intense, scientists back in Indonesia have actually studied him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first peek into this sonic world, <strong><em>OSMIUM 1<\/em>,<\/strong> feels like standing at the edge of a black hole, listening to it breathe. Shabara\u2019s raw, guttural sounds rip across layers of industrial distortion and mechanical pulse, eventually sliding into a brooding, ominous slowdown that lingers long after the last beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Speaking about recording the track, <strong>Sam Slater<\/strong> says: &#8220;When we recorded this track, Rully was completely in a trance \u2014 he went somewhere and then came back. Likewise when we play this track live, every time I look up from the drums I see the audience totally locked in to Rully, pushed and pulled by the waves and intensity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t about perfect polish or trendy production tricks \u2014 it&#8217;s real, risky, and deeply human.
