Mark your calendars, vinyl heads\u2014EELS’ snarling cult classic \u2018Souljacker<\/a>\u2018\u00a0is getting a fresh spin. [PIAS] Catalogue just announced a reissue of the band\u2019s 2001 album, landing on June 20, 2025. Pressed on juicy 140g red vinyl, this reissue resurrects\u00a0\u2018Souljacker\u2019\u00a0in all its ragged, glorious grit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally dropped in the post-millennium haze of September 2001 via DreamWorks, \u2018Souljacker\u2019 marked album number four for EELS, led by the enigmatic Mark Oliver Everett\u2014aka E. With production handled by John Parish (yes,\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0John Parish\u2014frequent PJ Harvey collaborator), the record was tracked at the EELS’ home studio in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As E himself puts it: “I had to fire two managers in order for you to hear this one. Hope you appreciate the effort.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Musically,\u00a0\u2018Souljacker\u2019 was a departure\u2014a snarling left turn from the lush orchestral vibes of \u2018Daisies of the Galaxy\u2019. Instead, this record lunges into the shadows with jagged guitars, scuzzy loops, and lyrics that walk a line between menacing and weirdly tender. It\u2019s part gutter-blues, part haunted lullaby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the unhinged freak-stomp of Dog Faced Boy<\/em> to the dreamy strings of Fresh Feeling<\/em>, the album swings between deranged and delicate like a fever dream. It channels Tom Waits\u2019 gravel and the storytelling grit of a worn-down roadside diner jukebox. In other words: it rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
