This is&nbsp;<em>The Saints \u201973\u2013\u201978<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 the real-deal legends \u2014 tearing it up with fire, volume, and a lineup that\u2019s both historic and electrifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a three-night stand at Brisbane\u2019s Princess Theatre in October 2024, the band dropped \u2018Live Nights in Venice\u2026 Vol. 1,\u2019 a digital-only EP featuring four scorching live tracks from night two. Longtime Kuepper collaborator Derek Bovill captured the shows, with Branko Cosic of 4ZZZ handling the mix. What you get is a raw, high-energy slice of rock history, delivered with the urgency and chaos that made the Saints so vital in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>As music writer Sean Sennett put it: <em>\u201cThis wasn\u2019t a tribute to the Saints \u2026 it was something else. This EP isn\u2019t just a teaser \u2014 it\u2019s a mission statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s the kicker:&nbsp;<em>this<\/em>&nbsp;lineup is hitting the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Saints \u201973\u2013\u201978 Are Touring the World in 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In November, The Saints \u201973\u2013\u201978 are set to tour New Zealand, North America, the UK, Sweden, and Berlin. For fans in the U.S., this is big \u2014&nbsp;<em>huge<\/em>, even \u2014 because it\u2019s the&nbsp;<strong>first time ever<\/strong>&nbsp;that material from the band\u2019s original era will be performed live on North American soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Mark Arm put it best: <em>\u201cThe Saints&#8217; first three albums rank among the best records ever made&#8230; Their influence looms large in Mudhoney world. I am stoked, stunned, and humbled that I get to join in on this Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Reality Camp with Ed, Ivor, Peter and Mick.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Crash Course in Saints History (and Why You Should Care)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Saints didn\u2019t wait for punk to become a thing \u2014 they&nbsp;<em>preceded<\/em>&nbsp;it. Self-releasing their feral debut single&nbsp;<em>(I\u2019m) Stranded<\/em>&nbsp;in 1976, they beat the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Damned \u2014 all of them \u2014 to the punch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the time they released their debut album of the same name in early 1977, they had already relocated to Sydney, then London, opening for the Ramones and recording not one but&nbsp;<em>three<\/em>&nbsp;seminal records:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>(I\u2019m) Stranded<\/em>&nbsp;(1977)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Eternally Yours<\/em>&nbsp;(1978)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Prehistoric Sounds<\/em>&nbsp;(1978)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After the original lineup split,&nbsp;<strong>Ed Kuepper<\/strong>&nbsp;returned to Australia, started Laughing Clowns (a major influence on the post-punk scene), released 15+ solo records, scored films, joined Nick Cave &amp; The Bad Seeds for a stretch, and basically built one of the most respected careers in Australian music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chris Bailey<\/strong>, the band\u2019s original vocalist, kept The Saints name going for decades, shifting toward folk, R&amp;B, and even scoring a Springsteen cover when&nbsp;<em>The Boss<\/em>&nbsp;recorded \u201c(Just Like) Fire Would\u201d in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ivor Hay<\/strong>, the Saints\u2019 original drummer, left the music industry for a time and \u2014 fun fact \u2014 wrote the first manual for the Fairlight CMI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2001, Bailey, Kuepper, and Hay reunited for their Australian Music Hall of Fame induction, and in 2007, headlined the now-legendary&nbsp;<em>Pig City<\/em>&nbsp;concert in Brisbane. Their last run together came in 2009, thanks to an invitation from Mick Harvey and Nick Cave for the&nbsp;<em>All Tomorrow\u2019s Parties<\/em>&nbsp;festivals across Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bailey passed away in 2022, and while no one could replace him, the current lineup was carefully assembled to honor the legacy, not recreate it. With&nbsp;<strong>Mark Arm<\/strong>&nbsp;on vocals and&nbsp;<strong>Mick Harvey<\/strong>&nbsp;rounding out the sonic depth, they\u2019ve found a way to bring the original spirit roaring back to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Box Set That Rekindled It All<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023,&nbsp;\u2018The Saints (I\u2019m) Stranded\u2019 box set was released on In The Red Records. The Saints had it all down.\u201d \u2013 Nick Cave<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOf all the places for one of the best bands to come from, it\u2019s Brisbane, Australia.
