Los Angeles alt-rock outfit\u00a0Starling<\/strong>\u00a0are back with a beautifully reflective new single,\u00a0No Frown<\/a>,<\/em> a slow-burning duet that captures the gentle magic of small-town romance. It\u2019s the final taste of their upcoming EP\u00a0\u2018Forgive Me,\u2019 landing June 27 via San Antonio-based label Sunday Drive Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track plays like a love letter to a slower pace of life\u2014acoustic guitars strum softly under elegant string arrangements, while Kasha and Gitai\u2019s vocals float through memories of a tender, place-rooted relationship. The warmth is unmistakable. You can almost hear the late summer sun shining down on front porches and backroad drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018No Frown\u2019 is the most acoustic song on the record<\/em>,\u201d the band shares. \u201cIt\u2019s about growing up in the city and falling in love with someone from a small town\u2014and with the town itself. It feels complete, like all our usual yearning finally gets a little rest.<\/em>\u201d Kasha penned the lyrics, performs the song with lead guitarist Gitai, and Erik arranged the strings to round out the track\u2019s nostalgic shimmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their EP \u2018Forgive Me\u2019 follows a string of dreamy and dynamic releases that blend grungey grit, shoegaze fog, and singer-songwriter intimacy. Last month\u2019s single I Can Be Convinced<\/em> turned heads with its crash of soaring guitars, frenetic drums, and Kasha\u2019s signature slow-burn vocals. The music video\u2014directed by David Milan Kelly\u2014features the band performing among a group of ballerinas, a fittingly surreal scene for a song that balances chaos and comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starling has been on a steady climb since forming in 2023. Their debut EP \u20182324\u2019 arrived last fall via Pleasure Tapes, compiling their earliest singles (including the buzzy Bottlebrush Tree<\/em> and Falling Down a Mystery Hillside<\/em>) into one hazy, heartfelt collection. With shows around LA and recent dates alongside Cryogeyser, Flooding, and Devon Ross, the band is making moves\u2014both sonically and geographically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this summer, they\u2019re hitting the road again, supporting Phoenix shoegaze crew Glixen<\/strong> on a string of dates across California, the Midwest, and Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the EP: \u2018Forgive Me<\/strong>\u2019
\u2018Forgive Me\u2019 is a seven-track journey through confusion, love, frustration, and the quiet revelations that come when you take the long way home. It was written over a year and recorded in the most DIY way possible\u2014in garages, bedrooms, and makeshift studios across LA. The band mixed it themselves (drummer Erik handled the technical side), with final mastering by Greg Obis (Duster, MJ Lenderman, Wishy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EP kicks off with the intimate Quiet<\/em>, slowly building into a sonic explosion that mirrors the sweaty summer garage it was born in. Lead single I Can Be Convinced<\/em> pulses with emotional urgency, while closing track Keep It<\/em> stretches nearly seven minutes, a brooding crescendo of frustration, distortion, and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starling\u2019s sound is hard to pin down\u2014but that\u2019s part of the charm. Somewhere between shoegaze haze and soft-grunge warmth, their music carries a distinct sense of yearning<\/em>: for clarity, for connection, for a place that feels like home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with \u2018Forgive Me,\u2019 Starling isn\u2019t just offering songs. They\u2019re sharing pieces of themselves\u2014raw, unfiltered, and achingly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
