The New York-based duo is back with a brand-new single called <em>Cellphone<\/em>, \u2014 a sharp, deadpan scream into the ever-blinking blue light of our digital dependence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MQ4uHYcqWGg?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><em>Cellphone<\/em> is equal parts punk meltdown and digital-era fatigue. It captures the push-pull of constant online existence \u2014 the dopamine drip, the doomscroll haze, the emptiness of always being &#8220;connected.&#8221; It&#8217;s noisy, it\u2019s raw, and it sounds like someone finally cracked and hit record mid-spiral. But there\u2019s intention behind the chaos. This isn\u2019t just a tantrum \u2014 it\u2019s a carefully constructed catharsis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The track is a taste of what&#8217;s coming on Laveda\u2019s upcoming LP\u00a0\u2018Love, Darla,\u2019 due out September 12 via Bar\/None Records \u2014 yes, that Bar\/None, home to indie royalty like Yo La Tengo and They Might Be Giants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cellphone<\/em> follows the June release of <em>Heaven<\/em>, a sweaty, electric jolt of a track that marked Laveda\u2019s signing to the label. That first single was a full-tilt party in song form \u2014 literally. The video was filmed during a one-shot DIY bash in a Brooklyn apartment. It\u2019s dizzying, gritty, chaotic, and totally alive \u2014 a perfect match for the band\u2019s raw, angular new sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laveda\u2019s latest material is soaked in NYC energy \u2014 think East Village scuzz meets shoegaze shimmer, with a pinch of existential dread. Since relocating to Queens, Brooks and Genevich have leveled up their sound, leaning into collaborative experimentation and biting social commentary.
