White Lies are back in the glow of the neon, expanding their most recent album \u2018Night Light\u2019 with a freshly unveiled digital deluxe edition \u2014 and it\u2019s out now via Play It Again Sam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally released last November, \u2018Night Light\u2019 already marked a confident new chapter for Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave, and Jack Lawrence-Brown. Now, the expanded edition adds two new bonus tracks \u2014 My Lover<\/em><\/strong> and I Love(d) New York<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 giving fans a little extra after-hours magic to sink into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI Love(d) New York\u201d is the real late-night standout. Filtering Bowie-esque disco through the unmistakable White Lies lens, it shimmers with gloss and grit in equal measure. As Charles Cave puts it, \u201cIt\u2019s a bit sleazy, it\u2019s got a glossy veneer and it\u2019s quite sweet \u2014 it makes me think of hollow decadence.\u201d<\/em> Consider that mood very much intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded release also shines a brighter light on how \u2018Night Light\u2019 came to life. For their seventh album, White Lies flipped their usual process on its head, choosing to fully rehearse and \u201cmaster\u201d the songs live in a room before hitting the studio. Inspired by the raw energy of 1970s performance TV shows like The Midnight Special<\/em>, the band wanted to capture the spirit of the songs upfront \u2014 not discover it months later on tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of the album was written in McVeigh\u2019s London flat, with the trio deliberately stripping things back. Less gear, more instinct. With 17 years of musical chemistry behind them, the focus was firmly on songwriting and feel. Keyboardist Seth Evans joined the sessions not just as an auxiliary player, but as a genuine creative collaborator, helping shape the album\u2019s sonic world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recording followed the same communal philosophy. Playing live together, White Lies leaned into rawness and emotional immediacy. Tracks like Nothing On Me<\/em><\/strong> and All The Best<\/em><\/strong> pulse with confidence and scale, while Everything Is OK<\/em><\/strong> and Juice<\/em><\/strong> reveal a softer, more vulnerable melodic core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sonically, \u2018Night Light\u2019 moves freely between progressive rock, disco grooves, and synth-heavy atmospheres. It\u2019s adventurous without losing focus, bold without losing heart. The album closes on In The Middle<\/em><\/strong>, a pulsing, unified statement that captures just how locked-in the band are right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixteen years into their career, White Lies sound like a band fully at peace with who they are \u2014 and energized by it. As McVeigh simply puts it: \u201cWe finally know what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That confidence is well-earned. Since the release of their beloved 2009 debut\u00a0\u2018To Lose My Life\u2026,\u2019 White Lies have grown into one of the UK\u2019s most enduring guitar bands. Recent tours have seen them sell out London\u2019s Brixton Academy and Hammersmith Apollo, while their global reach continues to expand \u2014 including a sold-out, 10,000-capacity show at Mexico City\u2019s Pepsi Center in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the \u2018Night Light\u2019 Expanded Edition, White Lies aren\u2019t just revisiting a strong record \u2014 they\u2019re extending the mood, deepening the atmosphere, and reminding us why they\u2019ve lasted this long in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
