It\u2019s the second release from their long-awaited return,\u00a0\u2018<strong>Low Sunday Ghost Machine \u2013 White\u2019 EP<\/strong>, following the hypnotic\u00a0<strong><em>Love Language<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Out via\u00a0<strong>Projekt Records<\/strong>, the EP has already landed at\u00a0<strong>#2 on Post-Punk.com\u2019s Best EPs of 2025<\/strong>, marking the band\u2019s first collection of entirely new material since 1999 \u2014 a sentence that feels kind of unreal to type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i_5UeD04mlk?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>If you trace the roots back to the mid-\u201990s Pittsburgh underground, Lowsunday (originally\u00a0<strong>Low Sunday Ghost Machine<\/strong>) were already bending time. Long before darkwave and shoegaze became buzzwords again, they were fusing shadowy synths, molten guitar textures, and emotionally charged songwriting into something that felt both nostalgic and futuristic. That reputation was sealed with their self-titled debut and the now-mythic\u00a0\u2018<strong>Elesgiem<\/strong>,\u2019 both recently reissued by Projekt Records to mark their 30th and 25th anniversaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then \u2014 silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The band dissolved, leaving behind a small but fiercely devoted following and a sonic blueprint that would quietly influence generations of alternative and atmospheric artists. Nearly 25 years later, Lowsunday resurfaced in 2025 as a duo, reuniting original members&nbsp;<strong>Shane Sahene<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Bobby Spell<\/strong>, and somehow picking up the thread without sounding stuck in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Soft Capture<\/em> captures that balance perfectly. Sahene explains the track grew from&nbsp;<strong>layered vintage synths, a droning bass line, and a wandering guitar melody<\/strong>&nbsp;that slowly darkens before climbing back toward something brighter. \u201c<em>We used the lead guitar feedback almost like a theremin,<\/em>\u201d he says, \u201c<em>letting it melt through the background.\u201d<\/em> It\u2019s a beautiful description \u2014 and an accurate one. The song feels submerged, weightless, and quietly defiant all at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lyrically, the track circles themes of entrapment and quiet surrender, but never stays there for long. There\u2019s a sense of escape baked into the chorus, lifted by backing vocals that add strength where things might otherwise collapse. It\u2019s reflective without being resigned \u2014 hopeful without being na\u00efve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0\u2018<strong>White\u2019 EP<\/strong>\u00a0itself feels less like a comeback and more like a continuation that just took a very long breath. Across its five tracks, Lowsunday bridge three decades of sound with ease: classic post-punk rhythms, shimmering guitars, soft-focus synths, and moments of feedback-heavy abrasion give way to dream-pop melancholy and crystalline hooks. The production is clean but warm, letting space and texture do the emotional heavy lifting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This EP is also the first of&nbsp;<strong>two new releases planned for this year<\/strong>, and if&nbsp;\u2018White\u2019&nbsp;is any indication, Lowsunday aren\u2019t interested in nostalgia for nostalgia\u2019s sake. Instead, they\u2019re expanding outward \u2014 darker in places, more open in others \u2014 distilling years of sonic exploration into something that feels honest, raw, and strangely timeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<strong>Low Sunday Ghost Machine \u2013 White\u2019 EP<\/strong>&nbsp;is out now digitally on&nbsp;<strong>Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp<\/strong>, with a&nbsp;<strong>limited vinyl run of just 200 copies<\/strong>.
