It was at a memorable gig in Brest, a beautiful port town in Brittany. We wanted to capture the intimacy and atmosphere of live shows, where quiet, gentle moments exist amid louder outbursts. The twists and turns between these polarities are what keep things interesting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>With\u00a0\u2018All Clouds Bring Not Rain,\u2019 MEMORIALS take their influences\u2014folk, dub, post-punk, experimental tape music, 60s soul, garage rock, 70s spiritual jazz, and Canterbury prog\u2014and spin them into something unmistakably their own. Imagine Nico singing with Can, produced by David Axelrod, and you\u2019re somewhere in the ballpark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recorded largely in a secluded barn studio in southwestern France, the album carries a sense of freedom and exploration. Susman and Simms handled everything themselves\u2014writing, performing, recording, and mixing\u2014hunting down specialized studios for harpsichord, vibraphone, and vintage Leslie sounds, including 4AD\u2019s London studio and Stereolab drummer Andy Ramsay\u2019s Press Play studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After composing the soundtrack for a critically acclaimed Kate Bush documentary in early 2025, the duo dove straight into recording this ambitious album over the summer, followed by a U.S. tour with Stereolab. The result?
