The Fredericton, New Brunswick-born art-surf-punk outfit have been described as \u201cCanada\u2019s Evil Beach Boys\u201d \u2014 and honestly? That tells you everything and nothing at the same time, which is exactly the vibe they\u2019re going for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band just dropped a gnarly new single called <em><a href=\"https:\/\/bfan.link\/kyle-hangs-ten\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Kyle Hangs Ten<\/a><\/em>, and it rips. Think Misirlou-adjacent guitar melody, a swaggering drum groove, and the kind of organized chaos that makes you feel like you\u2019re simultaneously wiping out on a wave and moshing in a basement. In other words: perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CrMHqe7OL-8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the fun backstory. <em>Kyle Hangs Ten<\/em> is actually a sped-up alternate version of <em>Kyle Hangs at Noon<\/em> \u2014 a track that made it onto their last LP \u2018Thunder Perfect Mind\u2019. When they were recording the album, the band couldn\u2019t agree on the right tempo. Co-producer Kyle Cunjak had a genius (chaotic) solution: do both \u2014 one slow, one fast. The slow, spaghetti-western version made the cut. The fast one got shelved\u2026 until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Motherhood put it: \u201c<em>We were trying to write the most surfy song we could without over-complicating a genre that, at its core, is just swaggy country music.\u201d<\/em> Swaggy country music. We\u2019re using that forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and the stakes are delightfully unhinged: Kyle Cunjak was apparently promised he\u2019d learn to actually hang ten by the time the song dropped. If not? He hangs at noon. Respect the deadline, Kyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stream it.
