There’s something happening out of East LA that deserves your full attention. Clarion<\/strong> \u2014 the shoegaze trio born out of a shared lockout space \u2014 have just dropped their new EP, ‘Blue Fairy<\/a>‘<\/strong>, and it hits like a wall of sound with something urgent to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Formed around the creative axis of Saya Oliva<\/strong> (bass\/vocals, she\/her) and Anthony Sanchez<\/strong> (guitar\/he\/him), with Javier Flores<\/strong> holding it down on drums, Clarion pull from a gloriously noisy canon \u2014 Fennel, Sonic Youth, HUM, Julie, Black Flag, Paramore \u2014 and filter it through something rawer and more instinctive. ‘Blue Fairy’<\/strong> is the sound of a band discovering their voice in real time, and what a voice it is: abrasive, emotionally alive, and completely uninterested in being polished. It’s shoegaze, post-punk, and noise rock thrown into a blender and cranked to eleven.
