The band has revealed \u2018Cut A Silhouette,\u2019 their sixth full-length, due <strong>Friday, May 29<\/strong> via <strong>Equal Vision Records \/ Dine Alone Records<\/strong> \u2014 and they&#8217;ve got the first single ready to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lead track <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/evr.lnk.to\/Crater-SINGLE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Crater<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is streaming now, co-written with <strong>Frank Iero<\/strong> (My Chemical Romance, L.S. Dunes), and comes with a music video directed by <strong>Travis Shinn<\/strong>. Robbins<\/strong>. It&#8217;s a record that frontman <strong>Jim Ward<\/strong> is calling a love letter \u2014 to music, to the band, to the whole messy, meaningful process of making something that matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<em>This is a love record. I want it to leave an impression, and at this point in my career, that&#8217;s what I yearn for. I&#8217;m working so hard to make something meaningful to me, and I really want people to get a chance to feel it as well.&#8221;<\/em> \u2014 Jim Ward<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The title itself came from an unexpected place: a documentary about John Candy, in which Macaulay Culkin described the late comedian as someone who &#8220;entered your brain and cut a silhouette.&#8221; Ward heard it and knew immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<em>He said that when he met John Candy, he just entered your brain and cut a silhouette. Like, he just left an impression is the way I see it. And when I heard him say that, I was like &#8216;Oh! That&#8217;s what I want this record to be.&#8217; I want it to leave an impression.&#8221;<\/em> \u2014 Jim Ward<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Written over the course of a year in hotel rooms, practice spaces, studios and soundchecks, \u2018Cut A Silhouette\u2019 finds the band \u2014 now rounded out by bassist <strong>Matt Miller<\/strong> and drummer <strong>Neil Hennessy<\/strong> \u2014 operating with a renewed sense of collective purpose. Ward says it plainly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<em>This feels like we&#8217;re a fucking band again. All three of us are in a room, we&#8217;re all writing together, we&#8217;re listening to each other; this is now a constructive creative process, and it&#8217;s now the end of this era. Like, I made it through.<\/em>&#8221; \u2014 Jim Ward<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The album&#8217;s collaborator list is a who&#8217;s who of indie and post-hardcore royalty. <strong>Frank Iero<\/strong> co-wrote both <em>Crater<\/em> and <em>Mouthbreather<\/em>. <strong>Kemble Walters<\/strong> (Chevelle, Juliette and the Licks) co-wrote and plays on <em>See You Soon<\/em>, alongside pianist <strong>Adrian Borgeois<\/strong>. <strong>J. Robbins<\/strong> and <strong>Brooks Harlan<\/strong> (Jawbox, War on Women) appear on several tracks, and <strong>Carlos Ar\u00e9valo<\/strong> of <strong>Chicano Batman<\/strong> lends guitar to album cut <em>Midnights<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revolver summed up the Sparta sound about as well as anyone could, calling it <em>&#8220;a tempo-jolted post-hardcore waltz that lunges towards galaxy-spiraling guitar noise, phosphorescent waves of bass fuzz and Ward&#8217;s yearningly, scratchily melodic vocal presence.&#8221;<\/em> Yeah, that tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band will be out on the road through the summer, including headline dates in Latin America, festival appearances, and legs supporting <strong>Jimmy Eat World<\/strong> and <strong>The Toadies<\/strong> in select U.S. markets.
