And if the lead single <em><a href=\"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=44391\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"LIFE are back: New album\u00a0\u2018ABSTRACT \/ NATURAL\u2019\u00a0marks a bold new chapter\">The Dollywaggon<\/a><\/em> came out swinging, this one pulls you close \u2014 it&#8217;s reflective, spacious, and quietly devastating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Built around a steady, almost disco-like groove, <em>&#8216;Turning In&#8217;<\/em> pairs understated electronic textures with a wandering bassline and arrangements that slowly bloom into a widescreen, layered outro. It&#8217;s the kind of song that earns its crescendo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vocalist <strong>Mez Sanders-Green<\/strong> wrote it about fatherhood \u2014 specifically, a morning on the Isle of Mull with his young son:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<em>This song is about fatherhood and parenting. The lyrics describe an adventure with my little boy on the island of Mull in Scotland. It&#8217;s about me and my lad hunkered down in a tent and waking to hear him chatting outside. He told me he was talking to a heron. To this day I don&#8217;t know if he was &#8211; whenever I see a Heron I now get goosebumps. The universal theme is about togetherness; fitting together, sharing moments, and always wanting to be there for someone you love. Sonically, we tried to make the track sound big, wide, and expansive to help tell the story of the lyrics.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The accompanying video \u2014 directed by <strong>Hinterland Creative<\/strong> and shot on the headland above the East Yorkshire coast \u2014 leans hard into that expansiveness, letting windswept coastal landscapes dance around abstract and monolithic structures. It&#8217;s a beautiful watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OrXFtXMi2cU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Turning In<\/em> fits neatly into the bigger picture of <strong>&#8216;Abstract \/ Natural&#8217;<\/strong> \u2014 an album that began not in a rehearsal room but in a poetry book frontman Mez has been writing. Musings on landscape, nature, love, and letting go eventually became what he described as &#8220;wonky lullabies,&#8221; and from there the band \u2014 <strong>Stewart Baxter, Lydia Palmeira, and Mick Sanders<\/strong> \u2014 built the music around them. Hills, ridges, and landmarks became characters: Hen Comb, Pavey Arc, Sergeant Man, The Grey Friar, The Dollywaggon. It&#8217;s a fully-realised world, and we&#8217;re only getting glimpses of it so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Produced by Stewart Baxter and Oliver Varga, mixed by James Kenosha, and mastered by Stephen Kerrison, the album was recorded at LIFE&#8217;s own Hull studio <strong>The Moon Factory<\/strong> \u2014 a space they built themselves on the banks of the river, now run as a creative hub for emerging Northern artists.
