Gliding synths, energetic guitar, and Carmichael&#8217;s ghostly vocals all dissolve into each other to build something ethereal and oddly impossible to shake. The band calls it the quintessential sundayclub song \u2014 and after one listen, it&#8217;s hard to argue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The single digs into Carmichael&#8217;s complicated relationship with being photographed and seen \u2014 something that comes with the territory when you&#8217;re a working musician, whether you&#8217;re feeling it that day or not. &#8220;<em>It can get really overwhelming and all-consuming when so much of your energy is put into your physical looks,<\/em>&#8221; she explains, &#8220;<em>especially when you just don&#8217;t feel like being in the spotlight or having that kind of attention on you.<\/em>&#8221; It&#8217;s an honest, relatable anxiety dressed up in shimmering pop clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The video \u2014 directed by Qran Zuh and the first in a planned trilogy \u2014 drops you into a hazy, angst-filled New Year&#8217;s Eve garage party, overindulgence and miscommunication included. It&#8217;s got the right amount of woozy nostalgia to match the song perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ne1RQZ3c6Ec?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Album<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8216;SUNDAYCLUB&#8217; is set for release on <strong>July 10th, 2026<\/strong> via <strong>Paper Bag Records<\/strong>, and it&#8217;s been a long time coming \u2014 four years in the making, starting in the basement bedroom of Carmichael&#8217;s family home. The record explores that particular liminal fog of early adulthood: caught between who you were and who you&#8217;re turning into, missing moments even as they happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That last part is a concept the band calls &#8220;<em>pre-nostalgia<\/em>&#8221; \u2014 experiencing nostalgia in real time, grieving a moment before it&#8217;s even passed. Album track <em>Blue Wave<\/em> was built around that feeling. &#8220;The song sort of exists in this weird space between the past and the present,&#8221; Carmichael says, &#8220;exposing my anxiety about time passing too quickly and my tendency to overromanticize moments as they&#8217;re happening.&#8221; Same, honestly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The chemistry between Carmichael and St. Pierre is clearly the engine here \u2014 intuitive, symbiotic, and apparently magnetic enough to catch the ear of Stephen Carroll (guitarist of Canadian indie-rock legends The Weakerthans), who tipped off Paper Bag Records&#8217; A&amp;R and helped land the duo their first label deal. Their 2025 debut EP \u2018Bannatyne\u2019 earned them a spot on <em>Exclaim!<\/em>&#8216;s &#8216;5 Emerging Canadian Artists You Need to Hear&#8217; list.
