Mark your calendars, Los Angeles \u2014 Halloween is about to get a whole lot stranger. On Saturday, October 31<\/strong>, “Weird Al” Yankovic is bringing his beloved 1989 cult comedy ‘UHF’<\/strong> back to the big screen for one night only at The Greek Theatre<\/strong>, and this time it’s coming with a full live orchestra in tow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time ever, the film’s original score will be performed live on stage, conducted by the score’s composer himself, John Du Prez<\/strong> \u2014 the Grammy Award-winning maestro behind A Fish Called Wanda<\/em>, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/em> trilogy, and yes, Monty Python’s Spamalot<\/em>. If you’re going to score a comedy classic, you want the guy who’s been in the comedy-scoring business his whole career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if that weren’t enough, following the film there’s a Q&A with Weird Al and special surprise guests<\/strong>. The man himself is already hyped:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’m so excited to join the great John Du Prez on stage at the Greek to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the 10th anniversary of the release of UHF. This will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.<\/em>“<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Du Prez echoes the sentiment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am thrilled that the UHF score will fly once more this October. Everything we imagined in the studio all those years ago will finally take on a new life performed in real time by a full symphony orchestra and Al’s wonderful band.<\/em>“<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In Case You Need a Refresher<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Released by Orion Pictures on July 21, 1989, ‘UHF’<\/strong> stars Yankovic as George Newman \u2014 a daydreamer who somehow ends up managing a rinky-dink UHF television station after his Uncle Harvey wins it in a poker game. What follows is a glorious, anarchic celebration of public access TV, parody, and pure absurdist joy. The New York Times<\/em> called it “so aggressively weird it makes you long for something genuinely normal.” Which, honestly, sounds like the highest compliment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ensemble cast is a who’s who of late-’80s character actor gold: Michael Richards<\/strong> (Seinfeld) steals the show as janitor Stanley Spadowski, joined by Fran Drescher<\/strong>, Kevin McCarthy<\/strong>, Emo Philips<\/strong>, Victoria Jackson<\/strong>, and a stacked supporting crew. The film was co-written by Al Yankovic and Jay Levey, directed by Levey, and produced by the team behind everything from Rocky<\/em> to The Godfather<\/em> trilogy. Yes, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
