Habibi shares the intimate new single My Moon lifted from their forthcoming album ‘Dreamachine’ (out May 31 via Kill Rock Stars). The song conjures the kind of personal connection that surpasses time and distance, with celestial lullaby chimes and images of quiet whispers shared under a silvery moonlight.

“My Moon is a song for the hopeless romantics,” explains guitarist/vocalist Lenny Lynch. “It’s about lost touch, lost connection, the ones who got away, whether by distance, time or a fork in our paths. But just as the moon never fails us, neither does our memory. My Moon is a tender homage dedicated to the ones who may not be with us, but their memory is still felt and carried. It feels like it really sums up the love language of the entire album.”
A work of sonic transcendence itself, ‘Dreamachine’ takes its name from the spinning work of light art popularized as a creativity aid in the 1960s (and later championed by musicians like David Bowie and Paul McCartney). The album features a mix of post-punk, experimental pop and vintage disco, all filtered through Habibi’s shared love of Middle Eastern psych music. From the defiant, dancey punk anthem Do You Want Me Now to the hypnotic album-opener On The Road, the band delivers an alternatingly fierce and joyous work that ascends to new heights as they reckon with desire and escape, love and surrender, rebellion and reality.

Co-founded by Detroit natives Rahill Jamalifard and Lenny Lynch, Habibi has garnered critical acclaim for their blistering blend of eras and cultures, from the sixties-girl-group pop of their self-titled debut to the psych-rock-meets-Iranian-folklore on their 2018 follow-up EP. Their 2020 sophomore full-length explored darker, more portentous sonic territory, but on ‘Dreamachine’ Habibi rises above the darkness to arrive at a singular, spellbinding sound they have been chasing for more than a decade. FADER recently declared “Ten years on, Habibi’s motion is still fun to behold.”
Habibi will hit the road this summer in support of the new album, with stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more. Find a full list of tour dates below.
