Miki Berenyi Trio are back with Big I Am, the latest electrifying single from their upcoming debut album ‘Tripla,’ out April 4 via Bella Union. Fusing jagged guitars, pulsing industrial beats, and a restless energy that demands movement, the track takes aim at toxic masculinity in the digital age.
Berenyi pulls no punches in her lyrics: “Throws his weight around, living a lie / Empty victory, stereotype, cliché masculine.” She explains, “I’ve watched masculinity morph over the years, and while there are always good men, bad men, and misguided boys who grow into better ones, this latest version of ‘winning’ the gender war is embarrassingly juvenile and deliberately regressive.”
The song’s gripping video, filmed at the Consortium Museum in Dijon, France, places Berenyi’s sharp critique against the striking backdrop of Isabella Ducrot’s Profusione exhibition. Directed by Sébastien Faits-Divers, it captures the intensity of the track with raw, unfiltered energy.
A New Era for a Familiar Voice
MB3—short for Miki Berenyi Trio—may bear the name of its iconic lead singer, but this project is a true three-way collaboration between Berenyi, KJ “Moose” McKillop, and Oliver Cherer. The name ‘Tripla’ nods to this dynamic, borrowing from the Hungarian word for “triple” in homage to Berenyi’s father’s native tongue.
Already drawing praise from Stereogum, Under The Radar, SPIN, BrooklynVegan, FLOOD and more, ‘Tripla’ is a landmark release for its creators. The album blends shimmering dream-pop textures with layered electronics, driving rhythms, and Berenyi’s unmistakable voice—balancing euphoria with melancholy, grit with beauty.
Mixed by Paul Gregory (Lanterns On The Lake) and featuring artwork by Chris Bigg (known for his work with Lush and Piroshka), the album captures a refined yet fiercely independent spirit. Despite its polished sound, MB3 are keeping things grassroots—recording at home, packing up their own gear, and loading in and out of venues themselves. “We’re not following the traditional ‘album, tour, repeat’ cycle,” Berenyi says. “We’re just making the most of this moment and hoping it connects with people.”
