Get ready to drift into a lush shoegaze dreamscape: the Miki Berenyi Trio have teamed up with alt-rock legend Lol Tolhurst (The Cure) and his son Gray for a brand-new standalone single called Stranger. Recorded across Los Angeles, London and St Leonards, and produced by MB3’s own Oliver Cherer, this track swells from hypnotic synths to a soaring, crescendoing outro that’ll leave you totally entranced. Why Stranger feels so special
“Stranger started life as a demo from Lol and Gray—guitar, synth, drums—and it had this insistent outro that begged to be explored,” says producer Oliver Cherer. “I leaned into a Talk Talk-inspired piano riff, added an Ashes to Ashes-style flanger wobble, then layered strings and a fat Moog bass to build it into a swelling wall of sound. Miki’s lyrics about the fallout of a long-term couple splitting really give it heart, and Moose’s shimmering guitars tie it all together.”
Miki adds, “At its core it’s about standing by friends when their world falls apart. The heartbreak is theirs to bear, but the ripples touch us all.”
Lol chimes in, “Sadly Budgie couldn’t join this time, so my son Gray steps in to play my parts live. We’ll all be onstage together for ‘Stranger,’ and it feels like the perfect song for these shows.”
