Modern English are back at it—and they’re not holding anything back.
The legendary British new wave/post-punk crew just dropped a darkly magnetic remix of Not Fake, courtesy of Texas-based duo Twin Tribes. The track originally appeared on their latest full-length, ‘1 2 3 4’—their first album of new material in eight years—and this rework transforms the swirling indie original into something deeper, darker, and dripping with electronic atmosphere. If you’re into moody synths and shadowy vibes, this remix is calling your name.
Twin Tribes had this to say about the collab: “It was such a privilege to work on this remix for a band of Modern English’s caliber. Rooted in nature and honesty, this track speaks to the deep need for realness in a world full of illusion.”
Well said.
This remix is just the beginning—Modern English have a whole slate of reimagined ‘1 2 3 4’ tracks dropping throughout 2025. Expect twisted takes from Hugo Burnham (Gang of Four), Kontravoid, MS. BOAN, Inhalt, ACTORS, Nuovo Testamento, and Sundowners dB. A full-on remix celebration is underway.

In case you missed it, ‘1 2 3 4’ is a sonic return to form, fusing the band’s post-punk roots with fresh energy and lyrical sharpness. Produced by Mario J. McNulty (David Bowie, Lou Reed, Nine Inch Nails), the record balances punk-fueled urgency (Long in The Tooth, Plastic) with synth-forward hooks (Not Fake, Crazy Lovers) and lush, moody textures (Exploding, Out to Lunch). The album doesn’t shy away from the world’s mess—it leans right into themes like politics, love, loss, aging, and the environment. Basically, it’s the Modern English you love, evolved and plugged in.
You can stream the Twin Tribes remix of Not Fake on YouTube now—and ‘1 2 3 4’ is available everywhere music lives.
Big Tour Energy
Things don’t slow down from here. Modern English are about to hit the road for a massive North American tour with fellow legends Simple Minds and Soft Cell. It kicked off already, and runs through June 22. That’s 24 dates of pure synth-laced magic. Don’t miss it.
Tickets for the tour are still available—but don’t sleep on it. These shows are sure to pack out. Remaining tickets are on sale now via Modern English’s site HERE.
Oh, and One More Thing…
Modern English’s timeless anthem I Melt With You was just honored at the 2024 BMI London Awards with a Million-Air Award—recognizing 8 million broadcast performances. Yep, eight million. Safe to say that song is woven deep into the fabric of pop culture.
As frontman Robbie Grey puts it: “It’s been a big journey for everybody, and our early days are really important to us. We haven’t changed that much. We’re still the same people inside. And the original members are the sound of the band; if you take some of those components away, you won’t have the Modern English sound.”
