Planning For Burial—aka Thom Wasluck—gifts us another glimpse into his upcoming album ‘It’s Closeness, It’s Easy,’ dropping May 30th through the always-visionary folks at The Flenser. This record is the sound of slow, invisible life shifts: grief, love, the ties that don’t unravel with time.

Hailing from the misty streets of Wilkes-Barre, PA, Wasluck’s solo project has always lived in the spaces between genres, and the new single, You Think, is no exception. Following the eerie expanse of A Flowing Field of Green, this one is a different creature—raw, tender, and teetering on the edge of collapse, full of the kind of vulnerability you can’t fake.

Wasluck shares: “‘You Think’ is the oldest song on the album. It’s been living in our live sets for years, and somehow survived all the early versions of this record. The lyrics shifted over time, but at its heart, it’s about coming out of years of self-inflicted chaos, realizing the mess is yours, and learning how to move forward without tumbling back.”

Musically, he wanted to shake things up—upping tempos, pushing his voice more forward, while still drowning us in those smeared, dreamlike textures of guitar and synth that define Planning for Burial’s DNA.

The video, directed by Minneapolis artist Alana Wool, gives a sly nod to The Replacements’ “Bastards of Young” and their legendary no-frills, no-sellout attitude. Wasluck says:

“Back then, The Replacements hated the whole self-promo circus. Today, it’s kinda the same… you have to be a ‘content creator’ just to get heard. It’s exhausting. This video captures that angsty boredom, the blurry late nights of drinking alone, watching life quietly slip by.”

You can watch You Think via YouTube below.

If 2017’s ‘Below the House’ was about coming home and grappling with the past, ‘It’s Closeness, It’s Easy’ is about what comes after—the quiet toll of time. It’s about aging parents, fading friendships, tiny fractures in the people we love. It’s about losing a 17-year-old cat who was more like a soulmate. About the heavy, slow sadness that doesn’t scream, but lingers like fog.

But it’s not all darkness. There’s also light—the deepened bonds, the resilient kind of love that outlives the noise.

Built over two years but recorded in sharp, immediate bursts, ‘It’s Closeness, It’s Easy’ feels less constructed and more unearthed—like it was already there, waiting to be heard.

Ever DIY to the bone, Wasluck writes, records, designs, and performs everything himself. His work ethic has carried Planning For Burial to hundreds of shows, and even a performance at Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival in London.

Twenty years deep into the project, PFB still sounds just as haunted—and haunting—as ever.

‘It’s Closeness, It’s Easy’ arrives May 30. Pre-order it now and catch Planning For Burial on tour all summer:
