PUP to bring Olive Garden vibes to Toronto for one glorious, breadstick-fueled night on May 1
Toronto’s finest purveyors of glorious chaos, PUP, are back with one last bite before the big feast: their new single Olive Garden. The track is gnarly, ridiculous, oddly touching, and one of the heaviest on the band’s new album ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?,’ out this Friday.
The song started as a soft, sweet acoustic demo—until drummer Zack Mykula had the absolutely unhinged idea to make it sound like it crawled out of a distortion pedal’s worst nightmare. And guess what? It works. Vocalist Stefan Babcock puts it best: “It’s stupid, it’s wonderful, it’s upsetting, it’s catchy, and—yes—‘Olive Garden’ absolutely rhymes with ‘Grandma in a coffin.’ Don’t @ me.”
Oh, and there’s a music video, too. Directed by PUP bassist Nestor Chumak, it’s just as bonkers and lovable as the song. Watch it and try not to smile—we dare you.
Yes, PUP are opening their own Olive Garden (Kinda)
On May 1, the night before the album drops, PUP are throwing a full-blown ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ launch party in Toronto that’s straight out of your suburban dining dreams. We’re talkin’:
- Unlimited breadsticks (well, probably)
- A live set and full album playback
- Olive Garden-inspired everything (music, vibes, decor)
- Food by chef Matty Matheson’s Rizzo’s House of Parm
- And enough surprises to make your Nonna proud

Toronto gets its own Olive Garden for one night only. It’s gonna be unhinged in the best way.
About the album
‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ is PUP’s fifth album and maybe their most raw, direct, and emotionally charged yet—without losing an ounce of the gnarly punk energy fans live for. Produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Death Cab For Cutie), it’s the sound of four best friends deciding to stop overthinking and just play loud, fast, and from the gut.
Stefan wrote over 30 songs for this record during a solo spiral of heartbreak, boredom, and isolation—but instead of wallowing, the band turned it into something honest, explosive, and weirdly hopeful. It’s messy, introspective, and wildly fun—just like PUP themselves.
“There’s a lot of sadness in the back half of the record, but there’s also a lot more hope. I’m just coming to peace with who I am,” says Babcock. “And hey, sometimes you’ve gotta laugh at yourself—that’s the only way out of the abyss.”

The PUP origin story: Chaos, friendship, and screaming in harmony
Over the last 10 years, PUP have turned dysfunction into an art form. Every record feels like it might tear the band apart, and yet—somehow—they keep leveling up. Their last LP, ‘The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND,’ was a maximalist fever dream. This time, they trimmed the fat and went for the jugular.
In the downtime, life happened: marriages, babies, new homes. Meanwhile, Babcock went through a major breakup and kind of… unplugged from everyone. Left to stew, he started writing nonstop. The result? A fast, ferocious, and surprisingly tender chronicle of emotional growth, band love, and trying (but not always succeeding) to be a better person.
This time, when they got in a room together, the sparks flew—in a good way. No fights, just music. “It felt like we were capturing the feeling of being in a band for the first time again,” says Babcock. “Only now, we actually know what we’re doing.“
