Revolver Gallery today announced it’s adding a Michael Jackson portrait by Andy Warhol to its Andy Warhol: Revisited exhibit at 77 Bloor Street West in Toronto. The rare portrait of the King of Pop will be on display at Canada’s largest exhibit of original Warhol prints and paintings starting Monday, July 20.
Warhol was commissioned by TIME Magazine to do a portrait of Michael Jackson for its cover on March 19, 1984. A near perfect subject for Warhol, this was the period when Jackson was considered the most famous man in the world.
Located in a 4,200 square foot pop-up gallery space in Toronto, Andy Warhol: Revisited will rotate more than 120 historic Warhol pieces throughout the exhibit’s six-month run including portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Mao, Mickey Mouse, Queen Elizabeth, the Dollar Sign Canvas, and the Campbell’s Soup Cans, along with a rare series of prints of John Gotti commissioned by the New York Times.
