Sea Fever turn up the heat with new single ‘Able Eyes’

Manchester’s Sea Fever are charging ahead with their boldest move yet: Able Eyes, a synth-laced indie anthem that’s all pulse, grit, and nostalgia. It’s out now—and it’s the last taste from their second album ‘Surface Sound’ which is also out now via Cosmic Glue.

If you’ve been keeping tabs on Sea Fever lately, you’ll know the band’s been steadily building a sonic landscape that stretches from coldwave clubs to festival fields. With Able Eyes, they plant their flag right in the middle of both. It’s euphoric yet grounded, raw but carefully crafted—indie pop with a backbone.

A Pedigree You Can Hear

There’s serious musical muscle behind Sea Fever. Members have logged time with some of the UK’s most iconic bands: New Order, Johnny Marr, Haven, Section 25, Brix & The Extricated—and you can feel that history humming underneath Able Eyes. From fuzzed-out guitars and minimal, punchy electronics to Iwan Gronow’s emotionally cut-glass vocals, this track wears its influences proudly while forging ahead with something very much its own.

Able Eyes truly signifies Sea Fever’s versatility,” says Gronow. “Although this is not one of our dance tracks, the song still has a real, intentional pulse, mixing Velvet Underground guitars with layers of synths. Lyrically, it’s nostalgic—throwing back to growing up. That line, ‘Kicking your heels, dissecting sums’ really captures life’s momentum, preparing for big changes.”

From Velvet Cool to Anthemic Heights

Inspired by New York’s ‘60s avant-garde and tipping the hat to the likes of Lou Reed, Nico, and Suicide, Able Eyes is a song built on layers—emotional and sonic. It’s moody, but not brooding; urgent, but never overwhelming. A festival moment waiting to happen.

The new single rounds out a series of lead-ups to Surface Sound, which began earlier this year with the club-driven swagger of Breaking Out and the simmering cool of Loose Cut. It’s been a wild ride through different corners of Sea Fever’s sonic universe, all leading to this: an ambitious second album that fully embraces the band’s wide-ranging influences with more confidence than ever.

The Album: ‘Surface Sound’

Self-produced by the band and longtime collaborator Pete Gleadall (musical director for Pet Shop Boys, no less), ‘Surface Sound’ was recorded across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. It’s coming on vinyl, CD, and digital—plus a special vinyl edition featuring a bonus 7” with Explanation, their track with the late, great Denise Johnson (Primal Scream, Electronic).
