Alt-rock outfit Slightest Clue are back—and they’re not pulling any punches. The band’s new EP, ‘Molly,’ is a gritty, emotionally loaded four-track ride that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Anchored by the blistering lead single Cauterized, this is the sound of a band digging deep, facing heartbreak head-on, and letting the wounds scream back.

From the jump, ‘Molly’ hits hard. Swirling shoegaze textures collide with post-punk urgency and grungy guitars, all wrapped around catchy hooks and vulnerable storytelling. The emotional core? According to guitarist/vocalist Mac McLaren, the EP was born out of real-life heartbreak—shared, mirrored experiences between him and bassist/vocalist Hannah Kruse as they navigated the ends of significant relationships.

Thematically it was inspired by Hannah and I’s mirrored experiences in closing important relationships,” Mac explains. “There are fictional characters in the songs, but also very personal moments that helped us process those feelings.”

Cauterized is the EP’s centerpiece—a scorcher of a track that captures the brutal clarity of emotional severance. “It takes from the idea of burning a wound closed,” Mac says. “Because that’s what it felt like—cutting something off that had to end, even though it leaves a scar.” The accompanying video is just as intense, reflecting the song’s raw nerve and sonic fire.

But ‘Molly’ isn’t just one long scream into the void—it’s reflective, poetic, and deeply textured. Lyrically, it weaves between personal confessions and fictional vignettes, all orbiting the big themes: endings, grief, identity, and the way we heal through art. The band’s lyrical craftsmanship comes through in lines like:

You cannot write your hand it shakes
Rush past the line of your mistakes
Locked up inside your ice cube tray
Unthaw those things that make me strange

Recorded live off the floor—a first for the band—‘Molly’ captures a rawness that studio polish can’t fake. “The songs had been marinating for a while,” Mac says. “So when we hit the studio, they were ready. That gave us space to experiment with tone and feel in a way we hadn’t before.”

The result is their tightest, most electrified work to date. If you’ve been craving a record that understands how loss can sound—loud, visceral, sometimes strangely beautiful—‘Molly’ is for you.

Slightest Clue are clearly stepping into their own here. ‘Molly’ isn’t just an EP—it’s a moment. A catharsis. A call to feel everything and turn it into something worth screaming about.
