Slow Fiction is back with a brand-new single, When, now streaming on Speedy Wunderground as part of the fresh Speedy Singles series. With its pulse-quickening three-minute sprint, When pushes you toward an inevitable finish line—a rush of raw energy where every note feels like a desperate attempt to find calm amidst chaos.

The track kicks off with Julia Vassallo’s striking words, “You are a clock without a face, You are a mouth without the taste,” setting the tone for a song that wrestles with the notion that something vital is missing from our world. Vassallo explains, “We’ve all experienced moments when the world, a relationship, or even an audience doesn’t meet our expectations. It sends us spiraling, like falling into a pit filled with familiar, yet jumbled voices. ‘When’ is our way of exploring that descent and maybe even finding a way out.”

Inspired by the gritty textures of Sonic Youth and The Jesus and Mary Chain, Slow Fiction blends the nostalgic spirit of early 2000s guitar with a modern edge, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

Fans can also look forward to a special vinyl release, featuring a 7-inch single of When along with a dub remix B-side by Dan Carey titled Who Is the Dub.
