Get ready to press play on something truly special: Chicago’s own Slow Mass has unleashed their brand new single Freeze Frame. This track is the first taste of ‘Low on Foot,’ their first proper full-length in seven years, arriving via Landland Colportage on May 16, 2025.
Freeze Frame finds the band turning the lens inward. Bassist/vocalist/pianist/synth wiz Mercedes Webb explains that the song wrestles with the way we see ourselves over time—the tug-of-war between embracing who we’ve become and daydreaming about who we wish we could be. It’s a theme that hits home, wrapped in the band’s signature blend of moody, melodic rock.
If you’ve been following along, you know ‘Low on Foot’ is already shaping up to be a highlight reel. We’ve heard the atmospheric pulse of Blur, featuring fellow Chi-town hero NNAMDï and Torche’s Jon Nuñez, and can’t stop rewinding Hogtied, which came out with a killer video by Mannequin Pussy’s Marisa Dabice. Now, Freeze Frame steps up to keep the momentum rolling.
To celebrate this long-awaited album, Slow Mass is hitting the road. They kick things off at Zohra Darling in Minneapolis on May 23, then bring the heat back home to Chicago for a two-night stand at Palisade on May 24 and 25. This July, catch them in Cleveland and Pittsburgh before the tour wraps at Pike Room in Pontiac, Michigan on July 27.
Whether you’re dancing alone in your bedroom or leaning into the live-show energy, Slow Mass has crafted a soundtrack that feels both deeply personal and wildly expansive. Don’t miss Freeze Frame—your next ear-worm awaits.
