Los Angeles punk misfits Sour Tongue are back with a brand new EP, ‘Final Girl,’ out now via Metropolis Records. The release marks their most personal work yet—four tracks that dive headfirst into grief, betrayal, heartbreak, and the messy process of still choosing love through it all. Dark, angry, funny, and devastating, the record feels like a horror-comedy you can mosh to.
Formed in the chaotic early days of the 2020 pandemic by Satori Marill and John Murphy, Sour Tongue quickly built a reputation for throwing genre rules out the window. Think disco meets grunge, hardcore punk colliding with country, and an unapologetic streak of humour slicing through the noise. Their motto? “When it stops being fun, we’ll end it.” So far, the fun hasn’t stopped.
The band have already won over fans worldwide with past singles, an earlier EP, and a US tour alongside industrial rock legends KMFDM. But with ‘Final Girl,’ they’ve levelled up—offering something rawer, sharper, and emotionally unfiltered.
The EP features the blistering single I Thought You Liked Me!, a deceptively breezy track tackling manipulation, lies, and the messiness of reactive heartbreak. “I wrote the song about being manipulated and lied to, getting fed up and reversing the roles,” explains Marill. “I wanted to talk about reactive impropriety, but with a feeling of guilt tucked beneath it. I think anyone who has ever had their heart broken and done something stupid in return can relate.”
