London/Melbourne rap duo Teether & Kuya Neil are back and ready to shake the scene with their highly anticipated debut album, ‘YEARN IV,’ set for release on May 2nd via Chapter Music. In tandem with this monumental announcement, their defiant new single and music video, ZOO, is out now.
Drawing on a rich tapestry of cultural influences and sonic histories, ‘YEARN IV’ captures the raw intensity and vivid world of two musical outsiders carving their own path. Recorded in Melbourne and finished in London—where Teether now calls home—the album channels hyper-local flavors into a distinctive global rap sound with echoes of the early internet era that shaped their musical journey. The project also features stellar guest appearances, including Nerdie from Sydney’s rising K-Rap scene, Wergaia/Wemba Wemba vocalist Alice Skye, and Naarm producer Stoneset.
The lead single ZOO sets the stage perfectly. With its paranoid trap instrumental and incisive lyrics, the track explores themes of alienation and the wild chaos of urban life. As the duo puts it, “Every day, in whatever city you’re in, millions of people wake up and do what they think is most important. It’s pure chaos—we’re like animals running wild, trying to make sense of it all. ‘ZOO’ was born from that strange, untamed energy.”
This new release marks their first full-length project since the 2023 mixtape ‘STRESSOR,’ which charted in the Australian Independent Top 10 and earned accolades across major platforms like Triple R, fbi.radio, RTR FM, and end-of-year best-of lists from Guardian Australia, Rolling Stone, and NME. Their journey from the breakout mixtape GLYPH in 2021 to ‘STRESSOR’ in 2023 has solidified their status as dynamic forces in the underground scene, with widespread support from global radio outlets and rave reviews from NME, Brooklyn Vegan, and more.
Beyond the studio, Teether & Kuya Neil are renowned for their electric live performances. They’ve rocked stages at Bigsound, Melbourne Music Week, RISING, Meadow, Vivid Sydney, NGV Melbourne, and Parramatta Lanes, sharing bills with international heavyweights like MC Yallah & Debmaster, Shabazz Palaces, and Chicago Footwork pioneer RP Boo. Looking ahead, the duo is set to headline an exclusive sideshow at The Gasometer in Naarm / Melbourne on March 6 and will also light up the stage at Golden Plains Festival on March 8.
