For over eight years and fourteen releases, TH da Freak – born Thoineau Palis – has been captivating fans with his eclectic blend of lo-fi rock and a tribute to the beautiful misfits of the music world. Now, on his fifteenth outing, ‘Negative Freaks’ marks a turning point. For the first time ever, the full five-piece band, previously known just for their electrifying live shows, dove headfirst into the creative process.

Each member brought their own flair to the mix: Rémi took charge of the electric organ and keyboards, Sylvain fused noise with bass on his six-string, Quentin assembled a quirky drum setup complete with a massive hi-hat and extra bass toms, Benjamin maxed out his 60s-inspired style, and TH stripped down his gear to lay down raw power chords. The album was crafted in just fifteen days and recorded live over four days, capturing a spontaneity that’s as unpredictable as it is captivating.

Inspired by the rebellious spirit of Butthole Surfers and the heartfelt intensity of Failure, TH da Freak channels early grunge vibes reminiscent of Mudhoney, TAD, and Wipers, all while embracing the melodic maturity found in late ’90s rock. The band even coined the “negative scale” – a method of infusing pop-structured songs with dissonant, edgy sounds that mirror TH’s surreal, nonchalant lyrics. The result? A colossal grunge monolith that feels both collective and fiercely radical.
