The Martha’s Vineyard Ferries are back with a new 7″ single, Decorations b/w Context, set for release on February 28 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. Featuring Bob Weston (Shellac), Chris Brokaw (Codeine, Come), and Elisha Weisner (Kahoots), the band continues to carve out its distinct sound with this latest offering.

Stream Context now on all digital platforms.

On February 28, fans can get their hands on a limited-edition vinyl 7” or stream the release digitally. The band is thrilled to share Context ahead of the official release.

Chris Brokaw on Context: “I became obsessed with the song ‘Context’ after watching the 2007 documentary You Weren’t There in Chicago. The film explores the Chicago punk scene from 1977 to 1985, and I happened to catch it by chance. During the screening, there were about 800 people in the crowd—old punk rivalries flared, and fights even broke out.

Later that night at the Empty Bottle, I saw Strike Under perform, and their song ‘Context’ completely floored me. I suggested to the Ferries that we cover this incredible lost classic, and before long, it became a staple of our live sets. Recording it as a single felt like the next step. But what about the other side?

Since the Ferries represent both Massachusetts and Illinois, we wanted to honor that connection. We landed on The Proletariat, a standout in an otherwise forgettable Boston hardcore scene. ‘Decorations’ had always been a favorite of mine, and somehow, I ended up picking both tracks. Consider yourself lucky—they’re both fantastic.”

Formed by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission of Burma, Volcano Suns), Chris Brokaw (Codeine, Come, Pullman), and Elisha Weisner (Kahoots), The Martha’s Vineyard Ferries have been crafting their unique sound since their 2010 ‘In the Pond’ EP (Sickroom). Their debut album, ‘Mass. Grave’ (Kiam/Africantape), arrived in 2013, followed by their 2021 sophomore album ‘Suns Out Guns Out’ (Ernest Jenning). Despite their sporadic schedule, they show no signs of stopping.

The new 7″ single Decorations b/w Context drops on February 28—don’t miss it.
