The Technicolors are back—and they’re not playing nice. The Phoenix-bred, LA-via-Nashville rock band just dropped Gold Fang, a feral, fuzz-soaked opener to their upcoming album ‘Heavy Pulp,’ out August 29 via SoundOn.
If this track is anything to go by, ‘Heavy Pulp’ is going to rip. Gold Fang oozes attitude. It’s slinky, snarling, and full of sharp teeth—fueled by a moaning vocal and a riff that stomps with real purpose. Imagine garage rock roughed up by desert grit, then set loose with a bit of Britpop swagger. It’s a lusty, villainous little beast of a song. Or, as frontman Brennan Smiley puts it, “It builds, broods, and licks its lips—something indistinguishable between a smile and a snarl.”
It’s also the first track they recorded with producer Robert Adam Stevenson (Queens of the Stone Age, The Kills), and according to Smiley, it was the spark that lit the fuse. “It gave us a confident burst of excitement and the push we needed to move forward and open the floodgates of ideas.”
‘Heavy Pulp’ marks The Technicolors’ first full-length since 2021’s ‘Cinema Sublimina,’ and it’s a wild step forward. Built deliberately and confidently during a few quiet years of creative regrouping, the record also features Nathan Price of BRONCHO on drums. Smiley will even be joining BRONCHO on tour this summer, slinging guitar across their run.
The time away—what some might’ve mistaken for a hiatus—was actually anything but. After spending over a decade grinding on the road and trying to keep up with the content hamster wheel, the band hit pause to get intentional with their craft. And wouldn’t you know it? While they were laying low, their back catalog kept catching fire. Over 100 million Spotify streams later, they’re walking back into the spotlight with their most ambitious work yet.
The build-up to ‘Heavy Pulp’ has already included the swampy, distorted swagger of Posh Spice and the softer shimmer of Softcore, both of which come with visual treatments that show off their flair for cinematic textures and off-kilter charisma.
To celebrate the release, The Technicolors will hit the stage for three special shows:

About The Technicolors:
First emerging in 2012 with a knack for fuzz-drenched hooks and brooding glam, The Technicolors—Brennan Smiley, Sean Silverman, Nico Nicolette, and Kim Vi—have always stood out by blending big moods with sharp melodies. Think desert stardust meeting downtown after dark. Their evolution has been steady, with singles like Neon Roses and Tonight You Are Mine showcasing their range. ‘Heavy Pulp’ is the sound of a band fully in their lane—and flooring the gas.
