Los Angeles psych-rock outfit Tombstones In Their Eyes kicks off 2025 with the hypnotic new single Mirror, a fuzz-drenched, kaleidoscopic journey pulled straight from their latest album, ‘Asylum Harbour’. Accompanied by a visually stunning music video from Italian multimedia artist Francesca Bonci, the track shimmers with dreamlike intensity, fusing raw emotion with a swirling, cinematic aesthetic.

MIRROR—A REFLECTION OF INSTINCT AND INTUITION

I’d rather let listeners interpret the lyrics in their own way,” says John Treanor, the band’s vocalist and guitarist. “I wrote Mirror without overthinking it—just whatever came to mind. But looking back, I can see it’s a song about trusting your instincts, especially when it comes to love and friendship.

While it starts with an almost optimistic tone, the chorus twists into something deeper: “I can see it in the gloom.” For Treanor, this realization hit only after the album was complete.

It’s a sleeper track for me—I didn’t fully appreciate how much I loved it until everything was wrapped up. The harmonies, the lead melody in the bridge by Paul Boutin, even the verse vocal—it all came together in a way that still surprises me.

‘ASYLUM HARBOUR’—A SAFE HAVEN IN SOUND

Named after a maritime term for sheltering from the storm, ‘Asylum Harbour’ marks a new chapter for Tombstones In Their Eyes. The album, released via Kitten Robot Records, is a powerful exploration of resurfacing after chaos, capturing the journey of healing post-pandemic.

Produced by Paul Roessler (45 Grave, The Screamers, Nina Hagen), with co-production by John Treanor, the record was shaped within the walls of Kitten Robot Studios—a space known for its gritty, experimental energy.

THE ART OF VISUAL STORYTELLING

Bringing the music to life is Francesca Bonci, a boundary-pushing artist known for her work with The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Collin Hegna, The Dandy Warhols’ Peter G. Holmström, and Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell. Her visual interpretation of “Mirror” layers chromatic textures and vintage analog effects, warping time and space in a way that mirrors the song’s immersive sound.

This video was instinctive, emotional, and abstract. I imagined John’s soul stepping in and out of that mirror—an endless loop of self-reflection.

FROM DEMOS TO A FULL-BLOWN PSYCH-ROCK FORCE

Tombstones In Their Eyes started as an intimate collaboration between Treanor (Los Angeles) and childhood friend James Cooper (New York City), swapping demos across coasts. What began as an exchange of ideas has evolved into a full-fledged band with a relentless creative drive, pushing the boundaries of fuzz-drenched psychedelia.

Writing and performing became Treanor’s way of navigating anxiety and depression, allowing him to express the inexpressible through layers of distortion and melody.
