Combining post-punk, pop-rock and alt-rock sensibilities, Dreamer once again showcases Wild Spelks’ impeccable ability to blend genre and create undeniably infectious soundscapes. Scuzzy, discordant guitar strums are met with pulsating drum beats and a singalong chorus that harks back to the familiar stylings of early Weezer as a result. The brainchild of Jonathon Sabiston (guitar, drums, bass, keys, vocals), Wild Spelks was borne out of a desire to create a musical project without compromise, writing and recording all the parts himself.
Talking about the single, Jonathon elaborates, “Dreamer speaks of recurring dreams that I often have, where I’m living in places I’ve never visited, making new friends who I’ve never met. Dreamer is about the funny feeling of these rich, vivid memories quickly fading to nothing.”
Wild Spelks’ two previous singles The Happy Places and Turn It Around have already received praise from the likes of Clash Magazine, CLOUT and NARC Magazine, as well as BBC Introducing Newcastle and Amazing Radio to name a few.
