Editors resurface with ‘Call It In,’ a song about solace in the chaos

It’s been a minute since we heard new music from Editors — their last studio album, ‘EBM’, dropped back in 2022 — but the Birmingham-born post-punk veterans are back and they sound like a band with something to say. New single Call It In is out now via Play It Again Sam, and it’s the first glimpse at where Editors are headed next.

The track was born out of sessions in rural Gloucestershire over the summer of 2025, where the band got back to basics — all in a room together, working the old-fashioned way. Frontman Tom Smith, who’s been busy with his debut solo record There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light, describes Call It In as a song about reaching out when the world gets too loud:

“It’s a song about asking for help, really, in the presence of an existential dread, finding solace and comfort in someone close, escaping the deafening noise of modern life.”

Relatable? Extremely. The video, directed by guitarist Justin Lockey, is out now as well — give it a watch below.

Seven Albums Deep and Still Evolving

Editors have never been a band content to stay in one place. Since forming in Birmingham in 2002, they’ve racked up seven studio albums — every single one landing in the UK top 10. Their 2005 debut ‘The Back Room’ earned a Mercury Prize nomination, ‘An End Has A Start’ hit number one in 2007 and picked up a Brit Award nod, and ‘In This Light And On This Evening’ topped the charts again in 2009. That’s a legacy that doesn’t need any extra hype.

Call It In teases the next chapter — and if the mood of this track is anything to go by, it’s shaping up to be something worth paying attention to.
