The group helped start an electro-pop-punk movement have returned with an 11-track LP with themes on modern society, the internet, and ego – specifically social media and its dark effects. With their first studio record in four years, ‘Egowerk,’ out tomorrow (Friday, March 15) via Saddle Creek, The Faint have shared an exclusive album stream with Talkhouse ‘Hear First. Ahead of the album release, the band also revealed a palpitating, beat brazen single, Quench The Flame. Take a listen via YouTube below.

Despite The Faint’s nihilistic musings on ‘Egowerk,’ Fink and drummer, Clark Baechle remain optimistic that things can improve if society is willing to absorb dueling perspectives. “The more you learn about any issue, any issue at all, the more you understand that it’s more complicated than you think,” Fink says. “I’d like to see people less convinced that they’re right about everything all the time. I guess I think we’ll figure it out as time goes on.”

As their work progressed in the ‘00s, The Faint became famous for their all-consuming live shows, where fans could channel all of their energy into jumping, leaping, and shouting in passionate tandem with the band. The guys, in turn, feed off of that energy. “I always think of the audience—from what I can see beyond my mop of hair and the blinding lights—as this buzzing hive of bees,” says bassist Michael “Dapose” Dappen of the live show experience. “All trying to dance in their socially allowed spaces, vibrating into this wave of heat. The heat is what always gives me this excited energy to play harder. Like when you’re in a sauna. You want to make it hotter and hotter and see how much you can handle.”

The Faint will be on tour in support of the album – full list of dates below and here.

NRVS LVRS share new single ‘Whatever & Ever’

NRVS LVRS share new single ‘Whatever & Ever’

San Francisco-based band NRVS LVRS have shared their latest single Whatever & Ever. The single follows up the band’s acclaimed album ‘Electric Dread’. Whatever & Ever is available on all digital streaming services now. Take a listen to the track via Soundcloud below.

Whatever & Ever looks at our dissatisfaction with living in a perpetual stream of apocalyptic news, unsolicited opinions, and curated personal brands. Recorded in Los Angeles with Eric Palmquist (Wavves, Night Riots), the song asks if the empty dopamine hit from each new notification is making us ‘dumber / or maybe just distracted’ and makes the case for resignedly dancing through the end times. With synthesizers glitching & gurgling beneath him, A. Gomez’ wounded baritone invites us to consider the possibility that nobody was ever in charge & the party is winding down. NRVS LVRS have also announced a west coast tour which kicks off on Friday in Reno at The Loving Cup. All upcoming shows are listed below.

NRVS LVRS (pronounced “Nervous Lovers”) is the dreamy darkwave project of husband & wife duo Andrew Gomez and Bevin Fernandez. While citing acts like Massive Attack, Can, and Kate Bush as influences, their music flirts with caustic electro-pop elements similar to that of The Knife, Bat for Lashes, or Crystal Castles. The dulcet tones of Fernandez’ soaring vocals complimented by Gomez’ low crooning glide over layers of ominous synths, driving guitar, and precise percussion to create compelling electronic soundscapes.

San Francisco natives Gomez and Fernandez — recording as NRVS LVRS since 2014 — can be found offstage crate digging at Amoeba, cheering on the Warriors, and supporting the Bay Area art scene. The pair’s 2015 debut LP on Breakup Records, The Golden West, was praised by SF Weekly as “crepuscular and opaque, with a grimy layer to it that thinly disguises the vein of pop running through the song[s].” NRVS LVRS has since opened for acts like Jagwar Ma and Telekinesis and received glowing reviews from PopMatters and Noisey.

Fontaines D.C. share new single ‘Roy’s Tune’

Following the announcement of their highly-anticipated debut album ‘Dogrel’, Fontaines D.C. have shared a video for their new single Roy’s Tune.

The accompanying video, directed by Liam Papadachi and featuring IFTA (Irish Film and Television Academy) award-winning actor Dafhyd Flynn, is a quiet and soulful portrayal of a day in the life of a young family, struggling to make ends meet, and coming to terms with how their lives have now changed after the birth of their baby girl. It’s a poignant and gentle ode to perseverance (or ‘hanging on’), matching the lament and hopeful optimism of the single. Watch the video via YouTube below.

Speaking about the single, guitarist Conor Curley says, “It’s sung to Ireland – from a mindset of frustration, depression, and a loss of innocence.

I used to work in the service industry, at a small burrito place in Dublin, and I’d walk home at night because I couldn’t afford public transportation. Grian and I didn’t have any money, so we were sharing a double-size bed in the same converted office block. One night on my way home I was walking by The George, which is the biggest gay nightclub in Dublin, and a guy was getting kicked out by the bouncers. He kept yelling at them, “I’m gonna kill you stone dead!,” and that turn of phrase stuck out to me.

A couple years back the EU awarded Ireland €14 billion in back taxes from Apple, but the government here refuses to do anything with the money out of fear Apple will move their headquarters. They care more about a giant corporation than the people of our country, and all we can do is sit there and take it.

We wanted this to be a moment of reflection on the album. We included this song with the purpose of showing our intent as a band and as Songwriters from the get go. That we intend to explore whatever emotions or ideas we see, and not just make ‘another post-punk album’.”

Odonis Odonis announce ‘Reaction’ EP + share ‘Collector’

Odonis Odonis announce ‘Reaction’ EP + share ‘Collector’

Odonis Odonis

Toronto trio Odonis Odonis will release their ‘Reaction’ EP on April 12 via Felte (pre-order). The band has shared the first single Collector, which is lifted from the forthcoming EP. The track is available on all streaming services now, but you can take a listen via YouTube below

Odonis Odonis merges pulsing electronics and foreboding textures to create a palpable sense of doom. Drawing on EBM and industrial influences, ‘Reaction’ finds the band further refining the sound they carved out on 2017’s ‘No Pop’ LP. Noisy synths saturate the sonic space, cut with sharp, bruising rhythms. The band offers up club fare with the throbbing four-on-the-floor “Insect” lashed with whip-cracking drum breaks. A heavy atmosphere layered with taunting vocal provocations creep throughout the four-song EP, and by the final track “Rip,” howling screams propel a crushing climax.

The EP was written while the band was touring to support their superb album ‘No Pop,’ and the evolution between the two releases is seamless. During this time, the band perfected the songs by testing them out live, chiseling away to the core of each piece. Recording also took place simultaneously while writing, and much of what made the cut is comprised of or structured around first takes. Produced, mixed, and mastered by the band themselves, ‘Reaction’ is a concise, focused collection of songs that perfectly captures the band’s unrestrained energy and spontaneity.
