Dusted Release “Bruises” Video + Announce Live Dates

Borcherdt-a-loDusted release a new music video for Bruises off their latest album “Total Dust”. The shimmering flares of sunlight and soft focus of the video pairs perfectly with Dusted’s fuzzed out guitars and haunting vocals.

Director Ben Portas, who is a longtime friend and collaborator of Dusted’s label Hand Drawn Dracula (one of Culture Addicts’ favourite), shot the video in remote Australia, taking advantage of his surroundings to craft a beautiful visual interpretation of the song.

NXNE Announces First Batch of Programming for NXNE Film

bbkingNXNE (North by Northeast) announces the first batch of programming as part of NXNE Film. Presented in partnership with Hot Docs, NXNE Film will screen more than 30 movies from June 13-16 at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and at alternative spaces throughout Toronto. NXNE Film will be presenting the North American premiere of ‘BB King – The Life of Riley’ on Friday, June 14. Directed by Jon Brewer, ‘BB King – The Life of Riley’ is a powerful and insightful documentary about legendary bluesman BB King. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the documentary features Eric Clapton, Bono, Ringo Starr, Carlos Santana, Slash, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Ron Wood, Mick Jagger, Bruce Willis and more.

Arts & Crafts To Release Collaborative Album For Anniversary

Arts_and_CraftsAs part of ongoing 10th anniversary celebrations, Arts & Crafts is preparing to release ‘X - an entirely new collection of original collaborative recordings by pairing up the artist from the label roster.

The 10 tracks on the album include new compositions as well as fresh, unexpected interpretations from a list of artists that includes Broken Social Scene, Feist, Timber Timbre, Chilly Gonzales, Stars, Dan Mangan and many more.

Thomas D’Arcy Releases New Video + EP

darcy2Thomas D’Arcy is known to many as the front man for Small Sins, a Toronto-based band with three critically acclaimed albums to its credit (2006’s self-titled debut, 2007’s Mood Swings, and 2010’s Pot Calls Kettle Black).  But now, he released of his first album under his own name, ‘What We Want’ on February 3 via Thomas D’Arcy Music/MapleMusic Recordings.

D’Arcy has released a new video for the super catchy song, I Wake Up Every Day, directed by John Poliquin. The video is a very stylish treatment for the song which involves multiple D’Arcys and a bunch of grids just like in his previous video for Credit!. I sense a theme coming on. SPiN Toronto Launches Weekly Ping Pong League

spin torontoSPiN Toronto, a ping pong social club, is offering a weekly ping pong league. For $5 a week, The League is a fun and social springtime activity for people of all skill levels from beginners to experts. Kicking off on Sunday, April 28, The League will run weekly on Sunday afternoons beginning at 2 p.m. for eight consecutive weeks.

TheLeagueBeginners, amateurs and pros will all have a chance to battle it out, with multiple divisions to reflect skill level. Ladder rankings, based on Tennis Canada’s ranking system, will dictate levels and standing of players.

While participants who work up an appetite, they can enjoy Chef Jon Lovett’s new spring / summer creative comfort food menu, launching Wednesday, April 17, and can cool down with SPiN’s signature cocktails or one of 12 import and local beers on tap.
